Last night's Directors Guild Awards played host to yet another round of slick red-carpet cocktail attire. While not quite the stuff of black-tie affairs, our two favorite looks certainly held enough intrigue to supply ample (sleeveless) styling inspiration. Jennifer Garner opted for an Antonio Berardi LWD that, once again, proved her ability to find the balance in sexy cuts and glamorous finishes. And for us, the combination of a body-conscious silhouette, embellished top, and a crisp Winter white hue made this the kind of monochromatic outfit that never veers toward boring. To counter the sleeveless shift, she accessorized with muted metallic pieces, namely a Salvatore Ferragamo box clutch and matching satin peep-toe pumps, then added just a hint of sparkle via Cartier jewels. Jennifer's look is the perfect solution to your "how to wear white at night" question. But if you're not a fan of the peep-toe look in Winter, try a pointy-toe pump in the same neutral tone instead.

This award season's wild-card styler, Anne Hathaway, went for a punchier print look, donning a sleeveless pink-and-blue beaded Valentino Couture dress with navy blue Casadei vegan heels. Because the dress offered up a serious textual statement, the Les Misérables actress didn't do much else in the way of add-ons. Her diamond studs, tennis bracelet, and wedding ring served as the outfit's only accents, and in this case, it totally worked. Anne's playful choice is the kind of dress you should wear on the next night out with the girls — it's fun, festive, but doesn't feel overdone in the least. Which look would you wear? Tell us in the comments.
Black and White Are This Year's It Couple — 3 Celeb Looks to Prove It
In 2012, it was all about bright colorblocking — the more eye-catching, the better. But this year, black-and-white is the new, more subtle combo to look to. And lucky for you, it's a way easier duo to master than, say, turquoise-and-salmon. It's only January and celebrities are wasting no time getting in on this chic trend. Kim and Kourtney Kardashian both wore the color-contrasted look (in two totally different ways) out in NYC, while Jessica Chastain put a sophisticated spin on her two-toned pairing. Whether you're heading to a work meeting or slipping into something a little more cocktail-hour-worthy, step inside to draw inspiration from these three different, albeit equally fabulous, black-and-white star-studded ensembles.

At a private press party for Harvey Nichols in Liverpool, Olivia layered up in a contrast-cuff sweater, slick black leggings, and a cream cowl-neck coat, then slid on blue suede pumps for a pop of color. Her dewy makeup, effortless side braid, and minimal accessories — pearl stud earrings, a gold Cartier love bracelet ($5,575), and matching watch — completed her sweet style perfectly. Bundle up in a cowl-collar coat, two-tone sweater, faux leather Emily D leggings ($68), and blue suede pumps for a flawless Fall look just like Olivia.

This Week's Best Dressed
>> Spring party season is in full swing, bringing New York's fash pack out in droves. On Thursday, Ferragamo feted the reopening of its gorgeous 5th Avenue flagship by inviting Solange Knowles — divine in head-to-toe Ferragamo, of course— to spin records for a well-heeled crowd that included Sarah Reynolds, Lauren Remington Platt, and Genevieve Jones.

Across the street, Cartier celebrated the opening of its "Cartier & Aldo Cipullo, New York City in the '70s" exhibit with a glam soiree that saw the likes of Arizona Muse, Lily Collins, and Charlotte Casiraghi. Later that evening, the party continued downtown, where Leigh Lezark (left) kept the crowd — which included Chanel Iman and Karlie Kloss, both in Cushnie et Ochs — dancing all night long.

The Exotic True Stories Behind the Jewels in Cartier's L'Odyssée de Cartier Film
Cartier recently released its first "short film," a fantasy short called L'Odyssée de Cartier, where a diamond panther set in the window of the Paris store comes alive and goes around the world in a series of adventures that touch upon memorable notes in the famed jeweler and watchmaker's 165-year-old history. Screened at the Metropolitan Museum of Art last week, it was an impressive debut for what is, by definition, an ad, but an extremely beautiful, well-executed, three-minute one. We were particularly fascinated by the scenes in St. Petersburg, India, and China and the plethora of animals shown. We did some research and found enough history to do a feature film. Considering this short film was two years in the making with a crew of 60 people, we won't wait around for the feature, but we're going to stick to one of our trusty slideshows to show you some seriously impressive jewels — and the Indiana Jones-worthy stories behind them.

Golden Globes Style: Mila Kunis
As the new face of Dior, Mila Kunis wowed in a one-shoulder tulle-skirt Dior gown at the 2012 Golden Globes in LA. The brunette beauty chose a few Cartier accessories — diamond drop earrings and a matching cocktail ring — and what we like to think are black Jimmy Choo sandals. We finished off her award-winning style with an emerald Kate Spade clutch. Shop the look here to channel your inner Black Swan.
Pregnant Style: Kourtney Kardashian
Kourtney Kardashian glammed it up in designer duds — ruffled Valentino boots and a textured Celine bag — while doing some last-minute holiday shopping in LA. Kourt rocked a sheer pleated blouse, dark denim, and a velour blazer. She topped her accented ensemble with a wide-brimmed hat, gradient sunglasses, and a double layer of Cartier love bangles. Snag her exact bag and boots with other similar items here.
