It's been just a few days since Minka Kelly and Derek Jeter announced their split, but she cracked a smile yesterday while shooting Charlie's Angels on set in Miami. We took a look back at Derek and Minka's romance, which lasted almost three years. Now she's throwing herself fully into her new TV series ahead of its debut on Sept. 22. Derek, meanwhile, finds himself in the middle of the latest Yankees vs. Red Sox faceoff. He helped lead the team to a 5-2 win last night. Despite troubles in his personal life, Derek managed to hit yet another professional milestone by recently breaking the record for most games ever played as a Yankee with his 2402th outing for the team.

New Charlie's Angels Is Like "If Jack Bauer and Carrie Bradshaw Had a Love Child"

Charlie's Angels has seen a few incarnations through the original '70s series and the more recent films, and now it's coming back to TV this Fall with a new group of crime fighters. Annie Ilonzeh, Rachael Taylor, and Minka Kelly play the iconic angels, and they hit the TCA with their "fourth angel" Bosley (Ramon Rodriguez) and showrunners to talk about how they came to be cast, and how this reboot is different from its predecessors.

  • Creator and executive producer Al Gough said that the casting for the show took a long time, and Kelly's character wasn't really a part of the original cast of characters. When she came in, Kelly didn't quite fit into any of the angel roles. Gough recalled that producer Leonard Goldberg said of her, "That girl is an angel . . . unfortunately she's not one of the angels you've written," so they had to rewrite to create the character of Eve specially for Kelly. Of the tough character, Gough said she's "a badass but she's very warm," and that "it's a Minka Kelly you've never seen before."
  • Movie angel Drew Barrymore is producing the show, and Gough described her involvement as "the archangel of Charlie's Angels," saying that while she is busy, she and her company are very involved, doing things like reading scripts and sending notes on them. Gough says Drew sends emails of encouragement, and star Taylor also noted that she is "very involved" in the costumes.
  • The ladies were asked if they'd seen the TV show or movies, and Taylor admitted to never having seen the original series — on purpose. She said she's taking "the passing of the baton quite seriously . . . but as actors it's important to do something fresh." Ilonzeh has watched the show and the movies, and she said that their "commonality is that they have the camaraderie," with a big difference: this time around, Bosley is considered another angel.

Pilot Scoop: Charlie's Angels

ABC is bringing

ABC is bringing Charlie's Angels back to the small screen this Fall with a reboot of the famous TV (and film) series. Though we've got new faces playing the titular angels — Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor, and Annie Ilonzeh — the premise is the same. Three tough ladies with checkered pasts team up to solve crimes for their mysterious boss, Charlie, and the fun of the show lies in their exotic travels, sexy costumes, and the bond of friendship.

Where it works: The show captures the most essential element of the original series: fun. The pilot is also well paced and does a good job of introducing us to the angels without trying to jam too much background information down our throats. Additionally, their first case as a trio — hunting down a well-known human trafficker — adds a bit of edge and danger. While all three ladies look amazing, they're also packing more attitude than certain other angels. (Translation: don't expect to see these butt-kicking women dancing in their underwear like Cameron Diaz.)

Where it doesn't: Bosley, who helps the angels solve their crimes, is much more of a straight shooter this time around. While Ramon Rodriguez makes for some nice eye candy, his personality falls flat and had me missing some of the quirkier actors we've seen in the role in previous versions of the series. Some of the acting in the pilot is also a bit flat, which brought down the chemistry between the angels.

You might like this show if: You're a fan of any of the original Charlie's Angels.

When it's on: Thursdays at 8 p.m.

Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.

Charlie's Angels is being revived yet again with Minka Kelly heading up the latest reboot of the classic TV series. The sexy show that originally catapulted Farrah Fawcett to fame in the '70s has already enjoyed one major comeback with a big-screen version in 2000 featuring Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, and Cameron Diaz as the ass-kicking female detectives. The film was a hit at the box office, and the threesome teamed up again in 2003 for the sequel, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. Minka and her costars Rachael Taylor and Annie Ilonzeh have been shooting their series in Miami for the past several weeks, revealing their great chemistry both on and off the set. So, tell us — are you looking forward to watching a brand-new installment or have you seen enough of this story before?

Minka Kelly Enjoys Miami With Her Angels and Chewy

Minka Kelly continued shooting

Minka Kelly continued shooting Charlie's Angels in Miami with her costars Rachael Taylor and Annie Ilonzeh yesterday. She was able to spend downtime on the set reading a magazine in the company of her dog, Chewy, during a break from her busy last few weeks taping in Florida. Minka's longtime boyfriend, Derek Jeter, is also in the Sunshine State focusing on Spring training with the Yankees with his teammate Alex Rodriguez. Derek's team is based in Tampa, a few hours away from Minka's location, but the Self cover model has had plenty of company from her new leading ladies.

Minka Kelly wrapped up a fun day on the set of Charlie's Angels in Miami yesterday. She and her costars, Annie Ilonzeh and Rachael Taylor, dove into the water while filming and then covered up in robes to return to their trailers. Minka has her dog, Chewy, with her while she's in Florida, but she's also been hanging out with Annie outside of work. Her boyfriend, Derek Jeter, is across the state in Tampa for Spring training with his Yankee teammates, including Alex Rodriguez. Alex, though, has the company of his significant other, Cameron Diaz, as she was seen in the stands at a recent preseason game.
