Best of 2010: Favorite Mass Retailer

Best of 2010 polls are so much fun.

Best of 2010 polls are so much fun. I don't want them to end! But before we can get to the biggest ones — Red Carpet Queen and Designer of the Year — we have to square away the battle of the mass retailers. These five giants ruled this year. Forever 21 supplied trendy cheap goodies, Zara mimicked the runways like no other, H&M delivered cool pieces plus Lanvin For H&M, Target continued its popular designer collaborations, and Charlotte Russe got a kick thanks to Gossip Girl's Eric Daman's preppy chic collaboration. I'm sure you shopped all five in 2010, but which mass retailer stole your heart, er wallet?

Glee cutie Jayma Mays took a page right out of J.Crew's styling book — piecing together an outfit with a preppy-cool party feel. Trend Alert: Short Leash

Chain-strap bags are ladylike and lovely, of course.

Chain-strap bags are ladylike and lovely, of course. But, should you tire of the shoulder-strap, slinging the bag messenger style as Diane Kruger does tones down the posh for a more casual, street-ready style. It's a short leash look that makes a fashionable juxtaposition between your chic little accessories and your 'laxed style. It really brings your purse front and center. And then the only other thing you need to channel the trend is to change up your purse-posture.

Here come all the pretty pretty details: florals, baubles, dim lighting, pink roses, raspberry sherbet champagne, mannequins dressed to the nines, glitter. It was sheer fabulousness. Eric was also there, mingling with friends, looking dapper in a slick dark suit that would make Chuck Bass jealous.

We've long been fans of Whitney's California-girl-meets-city style. Stepping out in NYC, she blends the best of both: street-ready leather jacket ($45, originally $59) on top, femme Mike Gonzalez petal skirt on the bottom. A pair of unique metallic-toned booties complete the look and play up the quirky-cool vibe. Click the items above to shop a similar look.
