Raf Simons said he wanted to make couture "appeal to a person who has a different energy" when he took the reins at Dior, and his Spring 2014 couture collection certainly hit that mark. Simons's latest offering for the house varied from asymmetrical day dresses to heavily embroidered evening gowns. But there were a few constants here: many of the looks had some kind of transparent element (sometimes that meant sheer fabric, other times it meant holes cut into the garment itself), and all of them looked incredibly easy to wear. And that goes double for the dresses paired with flats that sparkled like juiced-up running shoes ready for a night on the town.
But for all the sporty appeal of this collection, there were still moments of unbridled elegance in this show. At least one editor suggested Jennifer Lawrence's Oscars dress will come from this collection, but it wouldn't be difficult to imagine a bevy of women and their stylists competing to wear these gowns on the red carpet.
