Don't be confused by all the pastels at Derek Lam; this was indeed his Fall 2014 collection. The designer broadened his normally neutral palette this season to include pale pink, cornflower blue, hunter green, and ocher (even the eye makeup was brightly colored). As always, construction was of the essence here, with carefully rounded shoulders and intricately pieced suede and leather skirts. But the seaming even turned up in spirit in colorblock turtlenecks, worn under tunics. And if you are in need of a killer statement sweatshirt, Lam has you covered.
Evening may have been a smaller part of the line but was most definitely worth discussing. Satin dresses were sliced neck to ankle and held as if by magic by small golden balls at the seams. Roses adorned bustiers and dresses for the most literally romantic looks we've ever seen from the minimalist master. Guess you don't have to wait for Spring to look on the bright side!
