Katy Perry's Taken a Page From Madonna, Beyoncé, and Britney's Book

May 10 2014 - 11:00am

Look who's gone all designer on us — Katy Perry [1] will don costumes by Roberto Cavalli [2] when she takes to the stage for this Summer's Prismatic world tour. And based on the two iridescent sketches we've been treated to, Katy will certainly shine when she kicks off the tour in Belfast on May 7.

But she is far from the first performer to enlist designer expertise for onstage costumes. Following in the well-heeled footsteps of Madonna [3], Beyoncé, and Britney Spears [4], Katy's ensuring she'll be as stylish on stage as she is on the red carpet. See all the performance looks that blew us away like only designer pieces could!

Roberto Cavalli [6] spared no detail with these costumes! The Kaleidoscope Brodè dress is entirely embroidered in prism crystals, sequins, and iridescent micro baguettes, while "movements are emphasized by a play of fringes."

Britney Spears in Dsquared2

Britney brought the circus to the stage in Dsquared2's big-top-approved designs for her 2009 tour. The looks, according to WWD, "reinterpreted clowns, trapeze artists, and jugglers into a series of provocative looks for Spears and her dancers." In addition to ringleader-inspired suiting, Britney took charge of her three-ring affair in the label's gold armor.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

Another style partnership long in the making, Jennifer Lopez [8] turned to Zuhair Murad for the kind of sultry looks that make the Lebanese designer her red carpet go-to. For her 2012 Summer tour, Jennifer kicked things off in Murad's sexy, sparkling jumpsuit.

Beyoncé in Balmain

In addition to onstage looks from The Blonds, Emilio Pucci [9], David Koma [10], Givenchy [11], Ralph & Russo, Alon Livne, and Tom Ford [12], Beyoncé took to The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour in Balmain [13]'s graphic black and white separates.

Lady Gaga in Giorgio Armani

After lighting up the 52nd Grammy Awards' red carpet in Armani [14] Privé, Lady Gaga [15] brought the label's theatrics to the stage in a sculpted crystal-studded leotard. That would be far from the last time she turned to her designer pal, and she most notably went on to don Armani's spiked PVC costumes throughout her Born This Way Ball tour.

Rihanna in Givenchy

For her Diamonds world tour, Rihanna [16] cloaked herself in Riccardo Tisci's Givenchy [17] designs. Opening her show in dramatic fashion, the singer stormed the stage in 2013 wearing a bedazzled black and gold parka ornamented with Swarovski [18] elements, embroidery, and (should all that be too understated!) a gold bullet motif.

Madonna in Jean Paul Gaultier

But of course the queen mother of all designer-singer collaborations is Madonna [19]'s partnership with Jean Paul Gautier. The innovator of the performer's iconic cone bra teamed up once again with Madge in 2012 for her MDNA tour.
