With the onset of every trend, we get a whole slew of goodies to choose from. Designers deliver the looks, while lower-priced retailers offer up their own styles. So, when it comes down to trendspotting, it's not always about the high-end merchandise — sometimes a find that saves us some cash is so spot-on that even we can't tell. Can you?

I agree and understand where everyone is coming from w/ their opinions. But lets all agree, for those of us shoppers that 'shop' we know the discounted lines are a great idea in theory, but they really target the young shopper that looks up to her mother for style. Its got to be assumed that if target is selling a $45 Mulberry bag, there is in no way it can compare to the real $1200 Mulberry bag except for inspiration. We take what we can get, whether its the designer or the deal!

5 out of 8 isn't too bad. But it really is harder to tell online than it is in person.

So true... those target designer lines, I always get so excited and run over to target, and then when I try the dresses on they look and feel awful. So disappointing!

I agree with HockeyPrincess...a picture isnt really how u can tell cheap vs designer.. For example some of h&m pieces look amazing on their adverts but when you see them in store they are quite horrid.. made out of stiff cheap material, zippers badly sewn and uneven seaming...so no you cannot tell cheap vs high end in a pic

Hockey Princess, I don't understand what your point is. Comparing two items of different deign levels is not that crazy, especially as a game! I totally agree that it was very obvious which of the first two bags was high street, but there are plenty of designer items that don't look as expensive as they are (as well as many which are really bad quality and not worth the insane price). Whatever the case may be, it's just a game...

A picture doesn't tell you anything about the quality of a piece - workmanship, fabric, leather, weight, feel, etc. The same "look" can have a completely different feel with nicer fabric and more flattering cut. With accessories, it's even more obvious. Comparing Furla to that other bag... it's just laughable. They may look similar in a picture, but they sure don't in reality. Lets not take the designer vs. deal concept too far.
