It depends on the article of clothing but I mostly try and stick with the gentle cycle.

Handwashing and gentle cycle are basically the same right? Your clothes (and your wallet) will appreciate it more than going to the dry cleaners.

I take my hand wash / dry clean only, to the dry cleaners for the First Wash.Subsequently, I put them in a washing-net, and put them into the washing machine.I never like to handwash.

I handwash my lingerie and really delicate fabric, but my cotton handwash sweaters just go on the delicate cycle and get layed flat to dry. I used to work at a drycleaners when I was in high school so I know what I can get away with. Oh, and if it says machine wash, just do it yourself, the drycleaners will machine wash it too if you bring it to them. (tons of people would bring in their machine washable items and we'd just wash them in the washer). dropstar, don't wring the wet items place them on a bath towel and roll them up in it. The towel will absorb the excess moisture and not make your clothing deformed.

Always! I hand wash like half of my wardrobe but hey when you wear lingerie that costs 20$ a thong and delicate tissue tees for 50$ it's worth it!

Alright, I cheat! My Bosch washing machine has a handwash cycle, so that's what I use. Most of the handwash items say no wringing or twisting, which makes me wonder how on earth I'm supposed to get the water out! Anyway, since my machine is still a machine, i still put the ultra delicate items inside out in a lingerie bag, and wash them with a mild, natural soap on cold.

depends, although we've just moved into a place with a top loader so I'm actually hand washing everything that says hand wash at the moment!

It depends. If it looks like it needs a hand wash I will do it in the sink and spin dry in the machine and hang dry it on a hanger.

I used to hand wash lacy undergarments like expensive bras and stuff... but it's way too much work for my college lifestyle! I keep things like panties and bras in lingerie bags now and wash on a gentle cycle... And also, I think i'm alot more worried about drying things than about the washing process... I have drying racks, and am militant about using them!

i have all my hand-wash-only clothes in a big bag and i haven't gotten around to doing that. what happens if you don't hand wash a garment? which fabrics are okay to put in the washing machine?

If the tag says anything other than machinewash and tumble dry then it goes to the drycleaners. Simple, cheap, fast.

I follow the instructions 99% of the time, and my clothes last FOREVER, in their original state. The couple times my husband has washed something, he has gotten in major trouble!

yeah pretty much. i try to decide by the fabric though, i only hand wash my lace dresses or corsets. things like my YSL tees that say HANDWASH only, i put them in the machine-in a laundry bag, and it still comes out fine.
