FABTV: Fashion-able Double Kisses

Exchanging double kisses is not only standard in fashion circles, it's a sign of sisterhood (or brotherhood, depending). It's like a secret handshake among best friends. Nordstrom's Fall Designer Preview reminded me yet again of this, so I thought I'd provide a tutorial. Before your video lesson, it's important to know that French, Italian, Armenian, and other Mediterranean cultures do double kisses even outside of fashion events. And, unless you've been doing it since adolescence, it's hard not to fear bumping heads with your kisser. My advice is not to think too hard about it and let nature guide you. In Switzerland we kiss three times. It gets very confussing when we throw a dinner party for Swiss, Europeans who kiss twice, and Americans!

In my family we double kiss. In some parts of France they do a "triple kiss", so every time someone has been in France you end up getting three kisses! I really like it, but I shake hands or hug friend/acquaintances.

It's hilarious how there is an actual tutorial about it. I never think whether to 'double kiss' or shake hands. But, I have had an awkward experience once when I tried to 'double kiss' a person I just met, and that person backed away. We just laughed off thinking it's a cultural difference.
