There are more than a slew of celebrity clothing lines out there, but none with a retro twist. The cute-as-a-button Katy Perry may fill that void with a possible clothing collection. "I've always experimented with clothes and have my own style inspired by pin-up girls and Lolita," she said. "I love to create a character, and I like looking like I've just stepped out of a history book." She certainly did that in her Manish Arora merry-go-round dress (left).
As for her style icons? "Agyness Deyn and Dita Von Teese." It remains to be seen if she acts on her intentions, but given Katy's whimsical style, I would love to see what she dreams up.
Ugh why. She dresses like a train wreck.
1I agree. I can't stand her or her fashion choices.
2Ugh..Another fashion line that won't make it in the market.
3oh my god y they think that any one that appears on tv must have a clothing line?and out of all the stylish celebrity they choose her!!i wonder what she did to convince them!
4that dress is in-sane, but kind of cool. as for her style, while it may not be my taste, I like that she thinks outside the box and takes risks, even if a lot of the time they are too crazy to work. as for her starting a fashion line, enough already! so tired of celebrity "designers" who slap their names on someone else's mediocre designs...
5I'm actually just really annoyed by her in general.
6Same here. I don't like her.
7Amloveaffair, I agree--she is a complete train wreck. Her face and hair remind me of Zooey Deschanel, so I think she's cute, but her style is absolutely horrible. I get that she's trying to be unique, but come on...
8Please! It's not like she would walk down the street in this dress. Give the girl a break!
9she honestly might be my least favorite celebrity right now.
her stylist picks out all of her clothes based on her created persona
10but we all know celebrity don't design their own clothing lines, so I guess that isn't important
I might just be crazy, but I LOVE that dress, how fun!
11I think the dress was ok for the event...
12she was hosting an awards show (even though she really had no business hosting the EMA's)
my issue with her is that she seems like she tries too hard. she goes out of her way to shock ppl and don't get me wrong. others like madonna try to shock ppl too but when madonna does it, it looks natural.
13To be honest I like that dress too; I love anything whimsical and reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland. We even share the same love of pin-up and Lolita (though I don't quite work the 50's look or rock lacy dresses).
Unfortunately for me she's just one of the people I have to miss out on 'cause even if she comes up with cute stuff I might actually dislike her enough to boycott them. I really don't know why she's so annoying.
14breakbrooklyn I think that's why! Honestly she comes up with one catchy (albeit annoying) song and she thinks she's all that. Sigh. I don't know. Should keep an open mind in the name of fashion.
15I thought the dress was whimsical - it's not like she's going to wear it on the street, right?
16I know nothing about her.
But that dress is ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS. That is the most "wearable" avant garde dress I have EVER SEEN. Wish I could have worn something like that to my prom. Seriously. It's gorgeous.
17I adore this girl. Some of her stuff, like above, is totally out there which of course is crazy but her overall style is amazing. It's very 1940's with a current twist and I love love love it. I'm so over the same ol' boring, average clothes and style stars have. If I see one more billowy top, leggings I may vomit.
18i like her music but ughhh what is with this designing trend that all celebrities are after??!! leave this job to professionals plz!
19I hate the concept of a "style icon". So, many women who could be otherwise talented are reduced to nothing more than a "style icon".
20What an empty pursuit!
As far as no fashion line being retro-inspired, I think that's a falsity. Retro notes come and go, from hot pants to high-waisted jeans, to certain colors being "hot" again...All lines tend to be retro inspired to some degree, they just don't necessarily outright repeat an exact look from some long-gone era all at once.
However, I have nothing against retro girls, my favorite-Christina Aguilera- lives for retro-active fashion. Rock on time-travellers!
I had a feeling she was inspired by Lolita.
21Her style and music is so awesome! Katy Perry you rock!Your the best! I love your dress in this picture! I want it!!!
