Fab Flash: Are You Sick of Celebrity Models?

It's no secret that the era of the supermodel is over. Currently we have only Kate, Naomi, and Gisele. But even these ladies are celebrities in their own right. Kate just unveiled her latest collection for Topshop, Naomi recently released a new fragrance, and Gisele has been off designing shoes.

Nowadays, the only place you can see models is on the runway and ad campaigns. Recently, however, ad campaigns have become inundated with celebrities: Scarlett for Louis, Keira for Chanel, Sienna for Tod's. Adding more fuel to the fire, WWD is reporting that Jennifer Connelly will be the face of Balenciaga this Spring and Victoria Beckham may be Marc Jacob's muse. While I love these two ladies, I've been missing the good ol' days of the supermodel. Am I the only one?

That's what I like about Vogue Paris they always put models on the cover (however lately there are celebrities on it as well...). I am sick of all those celebrities without style, who don't look modelish at all on covers of magazines pretending to be a supermodel! I prefer Coco Rocha, Caroline Trentini or Behati!

i like it better when supermodels do the modeling. It's unfair how celebs take their spotlight and it's sad how designers use the celebs to model in their campaigns just so more people will take notice. It's quite effective but the models can do so much better ♥

Beauty sells. Celebrities are just as beautiful as models so why not use them to sell the product? If the shoe fits, MARKET IT!

As much as I hate seeing actors taking modeling jobs... I liked the Dakota Fanning adverts. They were quirky. Very Mar Jacobs.

And YES! I aree with JessNess...Seeing Dakota Fanning being all serious and moody in Bazaar and Elle in a Marc Jacobs ad was quite odd. I was watching Looney Tunes when I was her age

I'm actually quite sick of celebrities lately. Our media is saturated with them....I have to admit though, I really like the TOD's ads with Sienna Miller <Another overexposed celebrity...theyre quite beautiful

Has anyone noticed that the fashion mags are trying very hard to turn the models they use into supermodels? How many times can we look at a picture of Caroline Trentini jumping in mid-air? Or articles about Agyness Dyen in every other month's issue, plus seeing her as the rep for several fashion houses? I think the biggest fashion editors would LOVE to get away from pre-fab Hollywood celebrity, as long as the consumer will buy into the Anna Wintour-created celebrity...and all the profits it may create for the particular publishing company that discovers the "it" girl.

Sometimes I have a hard time believeing that certain actors and actresses actually wear or use the product they are advertising. Mostly because of how they are in real life. I see photos of how they dress and look normaly in paparazzi pictures... with models it's a bit more believeable (as long as the model isn't a huge celeb themselves.

I would like to see a return to more models. I'm fairly satisfied with seeing celebrities as models for makeup ads, I'm quite fond of those. But celebrities for other products... I could care less sometimes. But where I would really like to see more models is on the covers of magazines. Sometimes, I'm disappointed with magazines that feature a celeb on the cover and then give just a small box on how their stylist styled them on the inside along with a line about their new TV show/movie. I'm expecting an article about that person. In such instances, a model would have done the job just as well.

I dunno, supermodels just seemed so high class and perfect and super skinny. Celebrity actress and actors are more like "us" (if that makes sense)...

miss_glitterati took the words right out of my mouth. I'm 5'2" and like to see fashions on petite women, and it seems this only happens when the model is a celebrity. When I see clothes on a supermodel like Gisele, what it tells me is that I can't wear the brand's clothing even though I'm thin, even if I hem the sleeves and legs, because the bust points and waistline will be in the wrong place. But if the clothes look okay on Jessica Simpson, it might be worth going to the store and trying them on.

there are still plenty of campaigns that hire models: prada, d&g, hermes, and whilst chanel may have keira, it's only for perfume, not for their main clothing/accessories campaign.Some celeb campaigns do nothing for the company, scarlett for lv I do not find appealing, or the olsens for badgley mishka(mismatch there!) but others are just great, and Sienna for Tods is an example, There are plenty of models getting work: Daria Werbowy, Sasha Pivovarova, Agyness, Gemma Ward, Lily Donaldson... I really don;t think they are complaining much, there are always very few models that are succesful, the rest are there to fill the runways
