Fab Read: Fresh Fruits

Never been to Tokyo? Nevermind! Buy Fresh Fruits by Shoichi Aoki, $20, and you'll get a VIP pass to see the craziest street wear from all the coolest cats in the city. The photos are a collection of teen street fashion portraits selected from Japan's most famous street fanzine of the same name.

The featured kids, aged 12 through 18, wear a combination of high and low fashion, their favorite being Vivienne Westwood! And don't worry if you don't speak Japanese; the book includes translations of the captions that tell of the subject's name, age and clothing.

Buyer beware: as the cover indicates, the fashion in this book tends to get crazy so purchase at your own risk!

I don't think this neccessarily portrays the majority in Japan though. While a lot of people dress pretty funky - it's central only to a few areas. Besides that though I like the book before I'm a follower of the Fashion has no Rules idea.

ps. there's more of an age range! They show young toddlers who's parents dress them like this, to old senior citizens who remain stylish....=)

I love this book! I have this one and the older one called FRUiTS. I also have tons of Japaneses fashion magazines (EGG, Zipper, FRUiTS, Kera, etc..). They have crazy awesome style that I tend to see aspects of it show up here in the US about a year later. I love how they are so on top of things! XD

I've had this book for a while, and I'd really recommend it, even if it's not your thing. The photos are really great. Although, actually, the ages are much more varied, there are plenty of pictures featuring people in their early to mid twenties, and even a few in their thirties.

personally i am not a fan of this style but i think it's cool that they are being themselves and wearing what THEY want to wear. i wonder how they'll dress when they're older though. i'm guessing they'll eventually conform

I loved the style of almost every girl I saw in Tokyo it gave me a lot of courage to express myself through my clothes while I was there. Very liberating
