Not many people know about one of Parker Posey's best roles ever. In the film The House of Yes she plays a fabulous albeit slightly deranged girl with a dangerous obsession with Jackie Kennedy Onassis. She demands to be called Jackie O, wears sharp little suits and tops them off with pill box hats. She ends up being a lunatic, but she's fabulous along the way. No wonder she emulated the iconic first lady; Jackie O was the cat's meow.
The widow of U.S. president John F. Kennedy, Jackie O, as the tabloids dubbed her, remains an American icon of high style and grace. From the aforementioned pill box hats, to mini shift dresses, to caftans, to flats, and who can forget her biggie O sunglasses, she has forever put her stamp on style. As well, she was no doubt the most fashion forward first ladies. Not only was she buds with Valentino, Gucci named the "Jackie" bag after her which sold a record 6,000 pieces when relaunched in 1999.

Known for her elegant sophistication and her historical interest in the White House, in 1968, five years after JFK's death, she married wealthy Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis. After Onassis' death in 1975 - sad! - Jackie settled in Manhattan and began working as an editor for Doubleday, a job she continued until her death in 1994. She was buried next to Kennedy in Arlington National Cemetery. May her style, grace and strength live on.
totally agree. she had a certain poise about her that has never been matched. wonderful fabcon, fab!
I don't necessarily share the fascination with Jackie O but I do thank you for the movie link. Psychological thrillers are so up my alley. Thanks!
She was a reallly exceptional dresser without being a stuffy matron.
I really admire her sophisticated style. Great choice Fab
FAB!
I so admire her
She was a fashion icon in her own sophisticated way : )
Oh- thank you for this post and that info on the film (I can just picture Parker Posey pulling that off brilliantly). Jackie was the epitome of grace and chic. She kept it together even after all she was going through with Jack (the Presidency, the infidelity, etc....). Does everyone know that she lost a child (a few days after his birth) while Jack was in the White House. Tragic but she knew her role as the First Lady and the appearance she had to give. I was always impressed at how she carried herself after Jack and Onassis. She didn't have to work, but she did something she loved in NY close to her kids. I totally admire her.
she is so iconic
Loves Jackie. She has a birthday coming up, July 31st just like Harry Potter.
Jackie O is lovely. I have read though that she was super neurotic about what she ate and working out and such. Anyway, who cares, she had style and grace.
Fab lady.
she's so timeless..it's nice to see her on a post. there are many celebrities who i think would benfit tremendously from trying to emulate her style
plus, i was named after her
Yes, she was FAB. Her and Audrey, my sheroes.
yeah- Jackie, Audrey, and Princess Diana are woman who had class for me. Who really compares these days.
that yves saint laurent coat is to die for!!
Jackie was oh so sophisticated.
I've always loved Jackie.
Jackie O was my mother's icon, and I grew up believing she was the EPITOME of style. What I love about look is that she wasn't "classicly Beautiful"--she looked exotic. Also, she wore clothes but SHE still showed through and she always looked beautiful and comfortable at the same time.
I just read a book called 'What Would Jackie Do? An Inspired Guide to Distinctive Living' by Shelly Branch and Sue Callaway. It's not a biography, it's an easy read in which the authors discuss Jackie's philosophies on health, beauty, fashion, love, etc. and pose questions in each chapter asking what Jackie would do in certain situations. (For example... would Jackie shop at Target? Would Jackie get botox?) It's a really light read, and the authors often come off as snobby, but if you are interested in Jackie O and her personal style, there are a lot of little tidbits of information in this book that you'll find interesting. (Jackie used to have a maid drive around the block in the morning to tell her what kind of hair day it was!)
her and the queen are basically cool and calm under pressure and know that they are always to be graceful and respectful. i love jackie for her style and just ladylike pressence 24/7. she will always be an icon of fashion and etiquette.
I bought that book (bottom right picture) just last night at Barnes and Noble for like $13 (down from $50!)
I didn't get the snobby vibe from WWJD at all. I thought it was a cute read, and very useful for its factoids.
Like others have said, I LOVE Jackie. My mother often took style cues from her when I was growing up (never mind that Mom and I are the exact opposite of Jackie figure-wise; her style somehow STILL worked) and since I'm an only child (read: we ALWAYS go shopping together), the whole Jackie thing really rubbed off on me. (Especially 70s Jackie, who I think was one of the most fabulously dressed woman ever.)
I also love Audrey, but it's harder to adapt her style to my figure even if she and Jackie had similar physiques.
I love this woman's style , a real American princess
She's probably my favourite American Style Icon.
she is an icon!
THERE won't be any woman likeher
Timeless is the word
She is truly an example of the female powerhouse. She was such a strong woman. I think her style is just an added plus. I love her!
She really was the epitome of style, grace & class in her time. I picked up that book WWJD also-- just need to find time to read it. What a style icon she was!
She was so strong to go through everything and still look chic. I would like to remind you all that Oleg Cassini (the late Princess Grace Kelly's fiance and fashion designer) designed those pillbox hats and a lot of Jackie's clothes.
Oh I so Love Jackie! Her style is iconic and sophisticated.
whoever it is...........that has dressed the queen of england for all these many years should be shot !!!!!!!! what a shame
I love Jackie O, she has always been one of my favorite fashion icons.
LOVE HER! She is timeless. I am still inspired by her style even now. She was inspirational in her casual clothes, dress clothes, work clothes and so forth...

An everlasting beauty icon
