Fall 2011 Milan Fashion Week: Prada
2011 Fall Milan Fashion Week: Prada
Prada Fall might just be the work of a childlike fantasy. Miuccia Prada, who two seasons ago gave us lace and bombshell silhouettes, claimed she wanted to explore innocence within glamour. Turn back the clocks, to when we crept into our mother's closet and pulled out everything we shouldn't touch — python, furs, shiny paillettes, organza — and then combined it all into one glorious outfit, with a happy disregard for all womanly tenets of sexy allure. A deep teal python coat and silk orange and navy blouse were paired with sky-blue suede boots. Mermaid-like dresses, covered in oversized paillettes, had faux fur collars. A demure blush blouse was tucked into a mod block print skirt, worn over teal, green python, and key lime green boots, accessorized with a pair of camel suede car gloves and mauve clutch. Somewhere, a 10-year-old girl swooned. Sleeves were generally oversized, dresses followed a loose drop-waist sheath silhouette, and there was no decolletage to be seen; even the models' heads were generally covered up by leather caps complete with chinstrap. Finally, the way the models awkwardly clutched the handbags to their chest — like their favorite doll — contributed to the idea that we were just girls again, with little idea of sexuality, dressing to our own innocent definition of glamour.
- Trends: '60s, '20s, graphic prints, python, fur, sheath dresses, drop-waist, boxy coats.
- Colors: Pea green, teal blue, garnet, orange, blush, turquoise, navy, cream, black.
- Key Looks: Oversized boxy coats, paillette dresses.
- Accessories: The shoes were a major highlight: python and suede boots with Mary Jane straps.
- Who Would Wear It: Quirky fashionistas: Anna Dello Russo, Kirsten Dunst, and Zooey Deschanel should put in their orders now.
