Fall 2011 New York Fashion Week: Rachel Roy

It was a textural mix 'n' match at Rachel Roy, whose looks seemed inspired by the street style just outside Lincoln Center. There was something for everyone — wool and lamé pants and mongolian wool vests for the bohemians, floral silk chiffon dresses for the romantics, matte charmeuse dresses for glamazons, and a cashmere blazer and tie-neck blouse for the working sophisticate. It was eclectic, but the fact that each look came together in a really polished way meant that the eclecticism not only worked, it actually focused the collection. Playing with texture and proportions — soft silk with boiled wool, a beaded tunic over a wool skirt — made for a richly layered collection that knew just when to stop before the hobo alarm went off.
