Tuxedo Stripes, Tweeds, and Pretty Bow Blouses Dominate Tory Burch’s Fall 2011 Collection

>> “It’s English countryside meets American sportswear,” said Burch, when describing her Fall 2011 collection held yesterday at the Lincoln Center. Like many other designers, Burch was inspired by the ‘70s, but added her own refined spin on the popular Fall 2011 trend. Suiting played a dominant role — we were especially enamored with a red tuxedo-stripe velvet smoking inspired by her mother's old Yves Saint Laurent suit — along with dresses, and pretty bow blouses. Wine, muted orange, taupe, olive green, and red made up the Fall-friendly color wheel, while accessories ran the gamut of chunky loafers and leather satchel bags.

Burch also experimented with chunky tweeds, plaint prints, and heavy embellishments adding a textural component to her collection. Love it or not, the palazzo pant is back: low-slung pleated and printed versions were paired with silk tops for an effortless bohemian vibe. Burch’s selection of leather and knit jackets, furry oversized shearling vests, and cropped tweed coats also stood out as cold weather must haves. It might have to do something with the tenacious lines to get into her show, or Tory sitting next to Kanye during the first round, but the designer presented her show twice, back to back, to a somewhat perplexed audience.
