A Backstage Pass Into Fashion's Most Covetable Homes

Feb 8 2014 - 6:01am

When it comes to some of fashion's most reputable names, it's not only their wardrobes but their decor we have come to covet. Among New York City pads, LA lofts, and Hamptons hideouts, these homes contain both runway-ready closets and magazine-worthy rooms. In honor of New York Fashion Week (and good design in general), here's a look into the homes of top designers, makeup artists, and influencers. Prepare to be wowed.

Jenna Lyons

As the president and executive creative director at J.Crew, Jenna Lyons's former Brooklyn townhouse [4] was any fashion-lover's dream. It has been featured in lengthy spreads everywhere from Domino to Livingetc. With seven bedrooms and three-and-a-half baths as well as a wine cellar and back garden among many other features, it's a truly amazing piece of real estate.

Whitney Port

Reality-star-turned-fashion-designer Whitney Port's has a loft [6] that feels like a vacation. Located in Venice, CA, her home is an ideal work/live situation. With four levels that include a lounge-like space for watching movies, an open dining room that connects to the kitchen, a living room, and a bedroom, the loft serves as a reprieve from the bustling streets of Venice. Natural lighting aside, it's Whitney's Californian cool-girl decorating sensibility that lends a staycation vibe.

Bobbi Brown

Located in West Chelsea's art district, Bobbi Brown's sleek NYC penthouse [9] is exactly where you'd expect a makeup mogul to reside. The home features a host of minimal but exquisitely designed appliances, fixtures, and finishes including a mix of white lacquered and ebonized cabinetry. Of course, there's a direct elevator, grand master suite, and outdoor terrace with stunning city views.

Karl Lagerfeld

Designer Karl Lagerfeld's former NYC apartment [11] is just as iconic as his fashion reputation. Located at 50 Gramercy Park North, the three-bedroom home had stunning views and was loaded with his love for sleek design. Among the dark oak floors and crisp white walls, one could find a private library and large chef's kitchen.

Rachel Bilson

When actress-turned-street-style-star Rachel Bilson [13] decided to redecorate her contemporary, ranch-style house in the LA hills [14], she called interior designer Kishani Perera [15]. The result was a home that seamlessly combined Rachel's girlie, bohemian aesthetic with her boyfriend's affinity for understated design. From the clean and cool midcentury moments to the layers of nouveau-hippie textiles, it's filled with several styling ideas anyone can copy.

Nicole Richie

Without even stepping inside her home, it's clear that actress-turned-fashion-designer Nicole Richie [17] has one stylish space. She recently redesigned her Laurel Canyon backyard [18] in LA into a relaxing spot for family and friends. She even added her famed bohemian touch with a backyard tepee and perfectly placed string lights!

Erika Bearman (aka OscarPRGirl)

Known by many in the fashion world as OscarPRGirl [20], Erika Bearman is more than just SVP of communications for Oscar de la Renta [21]; she's quite the decor-lover, too. Designed by Miles Redd, her 1910 house in Southampton [22], NY, is a bold and colorful romp, featuring bright yellow floors in one room, a guest room done in hot pink, and a living room painted entirely — trim and all — in Benjamin Moore's Very Green!

Simon Doonan

Although quietly set in Shelter Island's woodsy landscape, the New York home of Barneys' creative ambassador at large, Simon Doonan, is anything but mute. Filled with vibrant colors, theatrical accents, and of course, many of his husband's (Jonathan Adler) signature designs, this midcentury-modern-inspired home [24] is filled with gusto.

Kourtney Kardashian

Fashionista (and fashion designer) Kourtney Kardashian's recently listed home [27] is simply eye candy. Located in Calabasas, CA, and designed by Jeff Andrews [28], the house is filled with a mix of high-end pieces and sentimental mementos. The house is not only gorgeous but functional for a working mama on the go . . . her boudoir cabinets filled with preapproved outfits are proof!
