Check out Shahrzaad's retail rant about expensive designer jeans in our Fashion Stylist group. I feel you, girl.
Just last week we read that the price of designer denim was dropping. Granted, many big name jeans still sell for $200, and some people rationalize that price for a basic wardrobe staple they wear several times a week. I myself have fallen victim to fashion stupidity and shelled out over $200 on Sass & Bide jeans. They're gray stretch denim, and are my favorite pair I've ever owned. Maybe after wearing them for four years non-stop, I might get my money's worth. Though I'm not the type of person who has 40 pairs of jeans, I have about six and wear them to death, so I don't mind spending a little more. That said, the most recent pair I bought cost $70. It is a recession after all! So imagine how annoyed I was to see this new pair of jeans by Acne, adorned with some type of modern body armor, selling for $2,000. Those ridiculous things had better protect you — they cost more than several months rent!

While I recognize that sometimes designers will make a product as some sort of statement to get attention, these jeans are not only hideous, they're also irresponsible in today's economic times. With $2,000, you could buy a new wardrobe for your whole family. Sometimes it's hard to draw the line on how much is too much to pay for something, especially with everyone having different spending habits and financial situations. What do you think of these Acne jeans and what is the most you have ever spent on a pair?

Ugh, these jeans are ugly. The most I've ever spent is $250 on True Religion Joey jeans circa 2004. I don't know why, I just had to have them.
1I normally spend around $50, but I have a ton of jeans lol. Yeah those jeans are hideous and overpriced, but there's always someone out there who can afford them.
2Those jeans are ugly. I wouldn't take them even if they're for free.
Don't get me started on the price.
3How stupid! They look really uncomfortable and ugly... the only people I can really see buying these jeans are Rihanna and Lady Gaga. I spent almost $200 on a pair of Joe's about 2 years ago and I've worn them a lot and they've still got some wear left... so I don't think that splurging on jeans is entirely a bad idea but jeez, there's a limit!
4Well, the worst part is that they just look stupid. Anyone who spends $2000 on these jeans would do better to spend their money on a stylist.
But in NYC, $2000 MIGHT cover ONE month's rent, depending on what neighborhood you live in, so I guess everything is relative....
5haha, vsugar...that's what i was thinking...$2000 is definitely not several months rent here...more like a month and a half...anyway, not about to cough that up for some jeans, ugly or not...i bought some $200 sevens like 5 years ago and happy to say i still wear them, so it was a worthy investment, even though it seemed a little silly at the time
6Hmm, my most expensive pair of jeans were $300. I love Acne and all, but this is ridiculous.
7I think $200 jeans is nuts, let alone $2000. Most I think I've ever spent on a pair of jeans is $25... most were $5-$10 off ebay or from goodwill. Have some 7s and some Joes and Joie and Miss 60 etc, but none of em really fit better than the old LEIs or american eagle- it's a $5 pair of AE skinny jeans that makes the husband drool the most.
8I had a similar rent about a 2000€ skirt that looked like it'd been made out of curtains about a year ago so I totally agree with this review, aaand those jeans aren't even near to looking slightly good!
9I meant "rAnt" :s
10$2000 jeans! And those things are ugly anyway.
11apparently the armour is made of silver. still ridiculous and very uncomfortably looking though.
12Hideous! For $2,000 I can think of a lot more worthy things to spend my dough on!
