If Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Fendi's Fall 2013 collection for Fendi was about in-your-face craftsmanship and bold color, their Resort 2014 collection was about how to soften all that energy while still letting all the craftsmanship shine through.
Case in point: a patchwork snakeskin t-shirt with blue leather sleeves has a simple shape, but is so intricately made and well put together that it looks seamless from afar, and a cape made from sculpted mink has all the luxury of one of the striped, multicolored fur jackets from Fall, with a different, much subtler graphic edge.
That's not to say this collection is short on eye-catching patterns or color combinations. The first look is a black-and-white skirt suit with a zigzag design, and Lagerfeld and Fendi cut more than one look from a yellow lattice print.
Anne Hathaway turned heads at the Met Gala earlier this week when she stepped out with Debbie Harry-inspired platinum hair. We've loved seeing a different side of Anne, so we were sad to find out that she planned on going back to brunette shortly after the Gala. But lucky for us, she chose to keep her blond look for the Tate Americas Foundation Artists Dinner last night in NYC, where she wore a light pink Givenchy number. Watch on for all the details. There's no such thing as an "off" day with Jessica Alba, and her latest book-signing outfit serves as proof. Her black Fendi top and printed ankle-cropped trousers, also by Fendi, supplied us with a look that's equal parts subtle and high impact. Meanwhile, her blue Elizabeth and James Stella pumps provided a trifecta of color, texture, and metallic sheen. Consider this a perfectly chic — and dynamic — antidote to the average black pantsuit option, courtesy of the updated colorblocked print, tailored silhouette, and sophisticated shoe choice. Of course, if you need to inject another layer of polish, a fitted blazer should do the trick. The best part? These three pieces are versatile styling tools that go way beyond the 9-to-5 grind. The monochromatic blouse can be tucked into a high-waisted skirt for cocktail hour; the pants can be worn with a relaxed t-shirt and flat patent oxfords for a cheekier laid-back edge; and the heels will provide the finishing touch on a flirtier Spring shiftdress ensemble. Now, all you have to do is shop the essentials below.Shop clockwise from top left: Mango Metal Fastening Blouse ($40), AllSaints Masson Collarless Blazer ($378), Ottoman Hands Drop Stone Earrings ($71), House of Harlow 1960 Blackened Metal Arrowhead Cocktail Ring ($84), Yasuko Azuma Four Bezel Ring ($450), Elizabeth and James Blue Suede Clark Pump ($148, originally $295), Topshop Unique Silk Devoree Trousers ($300)

From the dark lipstick to the fauxhawks atop the models' heads, Fendi went punk for Fall 2013. The collection featured fur on everything — from coats to handbags and more. The beauty look followed suit with a furry fauxhawk mounted on top of a french braid to create a punk silhouette. What's your take on this hair-raising look?
Things have gotten more than a little hairy at Fendi. Karl Lagerfeld's Fall 2013 collection for the house, which he named Icons Unchained, seemed like a not-so-subtle commentary on the conspicuous reemergence of fur in luxury collections.
There were animal pelts all over this offering, including coats cut from stripes of alternating natural furs and hides dyed with neon colors, as well as booties, pencil skirts, scarves, and the house's Selleria handbags. There were even sunglasses whose stems were covered in fur, and all the models came down the runway with fox fur woven into french braids to create the effect of colorful mohawks.
As for the icons Lagerfeld was referring to, well, what's more iconic than opulence itself?
The mantra at the Fendi Fall 2013 collection? Fur — in every shade — on everything, and we mean everything. Even the shoes, bags, sunglasses, and tough-girl mohawks were adorned with it. Karl Lagerfeld zeroed in on fur (a pointed nod to the house's heritage), sleek lines, sexy slits, and enough neon and tactile intrigue to convince us of this collection's '80s-punk-meets-tribal leanings. But don't be fooled, this Nu-rave-esque lineup is also impeccably tailored, and the clothes, while bold in effect, are crafted with the utmost ladylike sensibility. Take, for example, the car coats styled with knee-length pencil skirts, or the cool cropped jackets paired with chic high-neck sheaths. There's an undeniable edge to the Fendi Fall '13 girl, but with a little (or a lot) of color and a clean silhouette, she's not as unapproachable as meets the eye.

Leather and Spring aren't the most obvious pairing, but leave it to this crew of designers — who featured copious amounts of leather on their Spring runways — to make it the new It couple. From Marni's colorful structured tops and skirts to Fendi's sleek colorblocked pants, we can't help but be intrigued. While a part of us can't seem to fathom the thought of sweating it out for the sake of fashion (65-degree weather plus a leather dress does not sound appealing), there's another side of us is falling hard for all the pretty purple, green, and taupe-hued offerings. Now, we want to hear from you. Are you willing to sacrifice a little function for fashion's sake, or is this Spring leather trend just plain ridiculous?
