Freaky or Fabulous? Meet Martin Margiela, Balloon Artiste

I am so thankful Martin Margiela is around. While Couture is blooming in Paris this week, some designers are showing their noncouture, but equally stunning, collections.
What you see here is from the house of Maison Martin Margiela. The Belgian designer continues to toot his own horn, and this collection was made of so-called "artisanal" pieces. Never one to shy away from unconventional materials, how do you feel about wearing a jacket made of balloons? Of all the party balloons concoctions I've witnessed — including some ill hats — I've never seen one of these. This puts those seasoned craftsmen to shame. Margiela used 30 balloons, some inflated, all twisted together. I think it's darn Fab. Side note: Come November, the designer will launch a line of fine jewelry in collaboration with Italy's Damiani. (Cool)
