It wouldn't be Giambattista Valli without flowers. At the sixth couture show of his career, Valli seemed to be performing that Voltairean task of tending to his garden. The young buds he presented in his Spring 2014 collection were an array of sculptural dresses that were mainly short and far less frothy than we've seen from Valli's past offerings.
Still, there was plenty of visual interest here — and more surface decoration than you could shake a stick at. Virtually all of these confections were festooned with metallic floral appliqués that caught the light as the models came down the runway.
Amid the flowery runway creations, Valli installed a few jagged metal sculptures. They were as modern as the clothes he sent down the runway today. And in the Giambattista universe, they were just as tough, too.
