Diane Kruger arrived at the Vanity Fair Oscar party in what could potentially be one of the coolest dresses we've ever seen on the afterparty circuit. Crafted in a messy-meets-modernist black-and-white finish, Kruger's leg-baring Giambattista Valli look caught our attention and kept it there. Rest assured, the blond beauty kept everything else minimal, pairing the look with a slicked-back bun, Neil Lane cluster earrings, a gold-and-black clutch, a Jaeger-LeCoultre diamond-encrusted watch, and crisp white Christian Louboutin pointy-toe pumps. Couture Fashion Week is about pulling out all of the over-the-top, decadent, head-turning stops. Rife with delicate floral applique, jaw-dropping embellishment, and saturated color, designers' Spring '13 offerings did just that. The trend report points toward all things floral and feminine, as exemplified by Giambattista Valli's decadent array of beading and embellishment, Chanel's secret garden theme highlighting beautiful floral appliqués, and Raf Simons's botanical dream for Christian Dior. With swaths of silk, tulle, and guipure lace floating down the runway, we can't help but fall hopelessly in love with the likes of Valentino, Elie Saab, and a gilded Zuhair Murad collection. Though, as the lineups from Atelier Verace, Armani Privé, and Jean Paul Gaultier prove, there's sleeker, sexier fare in store here as well. The award season is a time when the celebrities pull out all of the fashion stops. We're talking about decadent jewels, perfect hair, standout footwear, and, of course, gorgeous gowns. Last night's SAG Awards didn't disappoint in any of the above categories, as we witnessed a bevy of A-list actresses dressed to the nines. With that said, there were a select few that got to wear extraspecial dresses — the kind straight off the runway. With only weeks since the Pre-Fall '13 lineups debuted, and literally just days since the Spring '13 Couture shows, designers were more than eager to offer up their beautiful gowns for celebrities to wear on the red carpet last evening. We're talking about Jennifer Lawrence's stunning navy Christian Dior Haute Couture gown, Anne Hathaway's sheer Giambattista Valli — both gowns made their debut on the runway less than a week ago — and Amanda Seyfried's Pre-Fall Zac Posen mermaid confection. Click on to see more celebrities in their fresh-off-the-runway looks at the SAG Awards now.
Giambattista Valli turned a fresh eye to modernist design with his Spring 2013 Couture collection. His fourth couture outing — staged at the Italian Embassy in Paris — featured restrained animal prints, wasp-waisted dresses and coats, and floral embellishments that were actually created from feathers.
Our full review will be posted shortly. In the meantime, a first look at the collection here in the gallery.
Selena Gomez dazzled in a pristine lace and peplum Giambattista Valli dress at the 2012 Glamour Women of the Year Awards at Carnegie Hall in NYC last night. The brunette beauty paired her ladylike number with patent Rupert Sanderson pumps, a mirrored Judith Leiber clutch, and a stunning Graziela cocktail ring ($2,660), then completed her streamlined look with an effortless updo and au natural makeup. It was a big night for the young starlet, who accepted her Independent Spirit honor alongside some of the most powerful ladies in the industry. Re-create Selena's flirty and feminine look with a lace peplum top, slit pencil skirt, and blush patent pumps for your next special fete.
A distinctly minimalist bend gave Giambattista Valli's Spring 2013 collection a cleaner, more refined edge than clothing he's shown in past seasons — but his signature flair for decoration was still very present. Take, for example, the simple sheer white shift dress decorated with beaded vines and rectangular white flower petals, or the lace applied to a red cocktail dress. None of these embellishments looked heavy. In fact, they appeared light as air, and so did Valli's sharply tailored suiting and a variety of garments in a tweed-like gold fabric dotted with round rhinestones. This collection was pretty, and also pretty cleaned up.
For Giambattista Valli's Spring '13 collection, the designer showed off his impeccable tailoring skills through a mix of gorgeous embellished dresses and more modern separates, ultimately providing options for the woman who takes her day from the office to cocktail parties. For daywear, Valli highlighted clean cut separates - ankle crop trousers paired with chic vests, tailored jumpsuits, wrap skirts, and peplum blazers - emoting a minimal, yet elegant effect. Meanwhile, the designer showed a more risqué approach with his array of sheer dresses leaving quite little to the imagination. Some of them featured a thick hemline while others showed gorgeous floral appliqué embroidery. We especially loved the sheer white sheath dresses cinched in with a matching slim leather belt. More details from the collection below.

Jessica Biel not only made the Total Recall rounds in NYC yesterday, she did so with a dichotomous styling approach. First, the brunette beauty stopped by The Daily Show With Jon Stewart in an animal-print Giambattista Valli cocktail dress (we're obsessed with the sweet tulip skirt silhouette) with a Fendi 2jours shopper and black Casadei pumps. By letting the longer skirt hem and quarter-length sleeves offset the exotic pattern and accentuating inseams, her look offered up a more sophisticated take on sexier ensembles. Then, Jessica switched gears, wearing an ethereal sleeveless white lace creation from Elie Saab's Spring 2012 Couture collection to the film's screening. In a nod to modest-meets-romantic dressing, she also added a delicate lace shawl to match. Her gold Elie Saab clutch and textured Jimmy Choo pumps injected a glamorous feel, but in no way interrupted the ultrafeminine vibe. One evening, two distinct dresses, and three key styling strategies to get you there, the Jessica Biel way — read below for quick tips on transforming your evening vibe from sexy to sweet, and vice versa.
- It's all in the texture. Notice how Jessica really nails each vibe via dress texture. In her first appearance, she opted for a sultry animal print — instantly giving off a more vixenish appeal. In her second appearance, she's every bit the sweet style setter in white lace. Sure, lace can be sexy, too, but not when it's worn modestly and in the most ethereal shade of crisp, clean white. The bottom line: you can set the tone of each look just by utilizing texture correctly. It's not always about going the overt styling route.
- Go for classic accents. When switching modes, you want to be able to work with what you've got. Not all of us have a pair of stilettos and clutch in every shade in our closets, but the main thing is to keep a good rotation of classics in your going-out arsenal. A nude pump will always work well with a more feminine silhouette. A black pump will work well with basically everything, but for our purposes, it will certainly put a slick spin on sultrier dresses.
- The ultimate twofer. You want to make it even simpler? Invest in a tailored LWD. For girlier nights out, pair the look with a neutral-toned heel and a scallop-edged clutch. Then, give it a sexy upgrade with your black pumps, a little black eyeliner, and a bold red lip. You can have it both ways.
Margherita Missoni married her race car driver fiancé Eugenio Amos over the weekend in a flower-covered white silk Missoni gown created with Giambattista Valli's advice — or as she tweeted, "couture counseling." Later, she changed into a pale pink version of the same dress for the star-studded reception. "The dress was made by the women who saw me growing up, following my precise directions," she wrote.
The couple exchanged vows at the church of Santa Maria Annunciata in Brunello, Italy, where Tatiana Santo Domingo, Eugenie Niarchos, and Teresa Missoni served as bridesmaids. Afterward, a group of guests including Carine Roitfeld, Franca Sozzani, Charlotte Olympia Dellal, Mario Testino, Suzy Menkes, and Derek Blasberg headed to Angela Missoni's nearby estate for the reception. Fabiola Beracasa tweeted a picture of the wedding lunch, where guests dined al fresco seated on Missoni-patterned cushions. Before the celebration ended, the couple cut into a heart-shaped cake. It was, as Lauren Santo Domingo tweeted the "Best. Wedding. Ever."
Ocelot spots, tropical leaves, and floral paisley patterns dominated the prints in Giambattista Valli's urban jungle-themed Resort 2013 collection. But while the prints were animalistic, the clothes were a great deal more refined: a slim white coatdress was trimmed with a delicately ruffled white lapel, while multiprint sheath dresses got updated with short peplums. Valli's customary floor-length, one-shoulder evening gowns made appearances and so did an assortment of very short shorts. Perfect for keeping cool in the city — or in the jungle for that matter.
