The Cannes Film Festival is off to a very stylish start thanks to pastel-clad celebrities including Diane Kruger, Freida Pinto, and Eva Longoria. Diane is serving as a jury member at this year's festival, which means we will be getting daily doses of her impeccable red-carpet style. She kicked off the opening ceremony in an ethereal, seafoam Giambattista Valli number that floated down the carpet. Freida Pinto and Eva Longoria also opted for softer shades on Cannes's first night. Watch today's Fab Flash to see all of these gorgeous pastel-hued gowns. On Allison McNamara: H&M top.

It was a star-studded affair at the LA premiere of What to Expect When You're Expecting, and celebrities brought their style game to the red carpet at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in LA. Jennifer Lopez stole the night in a nude silk gown by Maria Lucia Hohan, complete with monochromatic accessories thanks to Sergio Rossi and Jacqueline Nerguizian. Elizabeth Banks took a fashion risk in a moody Alexander McQueen fit-and-flare frock, and Brooklyn Decker brought her beachy-glam style in a mixed-print yellow maxi dress by Giambattista Valli. Watch today's Fab Flash to get all the details on these fabulous outfits. On Allison McNamara: Rebecca Taylor jacket, Zara blouse.
Amy Adams went for a refined retro vibe in a one-shouldered black-and-white Giambattista Valli number. Tonight's red-carpet ensemble is just further proof that she's nailed that stunning balance between an old-school Veronica Lake movie star and a Disney princess á la Enchanted. While the sweeping floor-length gown spoke for itself, we have to point out her awesome gold bow-tie belt — a perfectly ladylike-cum-quirky accent that provided a gilded boost to the outfit as a whole. She finished off the look with Brian Atwood sandals, Fred Leighton jewelry, and a Judith Leiber clutch. Are you a fan?

Olivia Palermo confirmed that light denim, usually reserved for more casual looks, can also work on the red carpet when she styled hers with a sparkling sequin blazer at the HBO premiere of Girls. The fashion-forward beauty layered her gray sequin French Connection topper over a white silk blouse and cuffed denim skinnies, then slid on a pair of colorful cap-toe Giambattista Valli pumps for instant glam. Glistening diamond stud earrings, a gold caged bracelet, and a blue ostrich Dior bag rounded out her polished look perfectly. To dress up your light denim, style it with a sequin jacket like Olivia did, or work your blazer with dark denim for a less casual approach to this fabulous look.
>> There may have been bold prints and crimson hues, but the collection on offer from Giambattista Valli felt much more sober than usual this time around. The designer kept it straightforward for Fall 2012, eschewing his trademark embellishment and frills and opting instead for clean-lined silhouettes and tailored pieces. Tweeds, plaids, and patterned knits dominated in shades of black, ivory, and gray for day, while for evening, there were pleated chiffons, speckled furs, and even a smattering of metallic croc. It was chic and wearable, yes, but it would have been nice to see just a bit more of that signature Valli spark.
For Fall 2012, Giambattista Valli honed in on the neo-lady — a different breed of ladylike sensibility that mixed edgier prints with classically tailored silhouettes. The result? A mashup of brightly patterned chiffon, major fur embellishments, matchy-matchy suits, an updated take on houndstooth, and sheer pleated skirts to start. While the overarching theme was markedly femme sophistication, Valli took care to never let that steer him away from a bright color palette (orange! red! gold!), prints on prints, and see-through details. A perfect example of this can be found in a menswear-inspired suit set decked out in a bold geo-pattern, or in the sleek frocks adorned with a dropwaist-esque hem and embellished with fur. It's an interesting mix of evening-suitable looks injected with a totally youthful quirk.
- Trends: Peplum sweaters, ladylike pencil skirts and modest sheaths, cinched waists, fur-lined hems, bold printed suits, sheer pleats, and patterned chiffon.
- Colors: Black, white, red, gold, orange, and burgundy.
- Key Look: We loved the fluid movement of the sheer pleated skirts — such a flirty feminine look — and the inclusion of bright patterns.
- Accessories: Metallic waist belts and super chunky ankle-strap platforms.
- Who Would Wear It: Red carpet A-listers like Emma Stone, Reese Witherspoon, Salma Hayek, and Diane Kruger.
Emma Stone is red delicious in a Giambattista Valli gown at the Oscars. It's fun and flirty — the tie-neck is just the sort of fashion flair that Emma can pull off, and she makes the most of it by pulling her hair back in an elegant sideswept bun and keeping the makeup neutral. For jewelry, her sparkly Louis Vuitton clutch makes the biggest statement, while the Vuitton earrings, from their high jewelry collection, are lovely — red spinels and diamonds set in white gold. For the second time today, Diane Kruger caught our attention at the Berlin Film Festival, this time wowing in a dramatic Giambattista Valli gown at the premiere of Farewell, My Queen. Thanks to a bold combination of polka dots, a ladylike tie-neckline, and a wash of sequins over the bodice, the couture confection may just be another one to add to the growing list of looks only Diane can wear. Adding to the drama, Diane sported an edgy set of cuff earrings, dark polish, and a statement clutch by Judith Leiber. We're still digesting the look, but now we're turning it to you — click through to see every angle, then be sure to tell us what you think in comments.
