Golden Globe Awards: Beyonce

She may not have put the gold in Golden Globes, but Beyonce went all out on the embellishment for her red carpet outing. Her beaded strapless Elie Saab is complemented by plenty of frosting around the neck and on the ears. Let's not forget that eye-catching slit; how do you feel about it?

Also? As usual, she looks like if something on her hem snags the carpet by even half a centimeter there will be 800 FCC violations, i.e., she looks uncomfortable, and it doesn't fit correctly. The top of the dress is hanging on by the grace of God, the sides of the slit are wavy, which is a huge red flag -- if your dress is cut properly, the sides of your slit should be straight; they're only wavy or pulling if your dress is too tight. There's no elegance or beauty in that, and it has to be incredibly stressful for her to wear that. She's what, 25? Her body's fantastic -- give her a dress that lets her walk, stand, sit, and bend without shapewear and stressing. She can probably barely sit down without extra security in this nightmare and most of the others. Someone rescue this girl from her own designer, please!

You know, I'd been blaming her Lower 10th Avenue red carpet look on the fact that she's always pimping her mama's House of Dereon line, and I'd always lamented the fact that she wouldn't let a "real designer" dress her. But here she has, and now that I'm seeing the same basic problems in an Elie Saab, who makes Halle Berry and less fortunate others look like goddesses on a regular basis, and I'm aware that the designers are subject to the whim of the stars, I'm starting to think that the problem is either (1) the fact that Beyonce herself doesn't have any taste (gasp!) or (2) her mother or father (remember, he's the one who dressed Destiny's Child in outfits any normal father would have yanked you back inside and grounded you for) is still running the show and demanding outfits that are too tight and show too much skin. Either way it's time for the Knowles Family to stand back, because their taste is all in their mouths.
