Clothes are pretty much the basis of my first impressions! I mean, clothes have an effect, but are not the only thing I take into consideration... Heck no - clothes don't affect my first impression at all! Other - do tell! But, hey, who is that cute little black faced pug there mandykw? missk29 6 years It matters alot. When you first meet a person it is what they are wearing and what they look like that the eyes see first and then we all automatically start summing a person up based on that. This is even before conversation begins and you get to know someone. However, I do concur that impressions can change when the personality is good but the fashion sense is horrid sarabel 6 years i do base a lot of it on looks (shameful) and then personality next. mandykw 6 years I think that the way a person dresses eludes to what their personality is like. I try not to judge a person solely based on that though. I mean come on, we all have our uggo days. elmendoa 6 years clothes are a way for people to express themselves. and i'm not trying to be mean, but i definitely get my first impression by what they are wearing, except on halloween because, well, then the sl*t rule applies. ;) Sonnshine 6 years They don't affect my first impression about whether they're nice or not. But clothes do tell me about people their style. renaimarie 6 years I will judge you immediately if you are wearing: UGGS, a slicked back ponytail, running shoes, sweats, and pretty much anything with "PINK" or "JUICY" scrawled across it. Unless you are on a run, or shoveling snow off of your car you should take enough time to put on some halfway presentable clothes. I went to an art school in Seattle, and I was always shocked to see students from other schools. The people at my school very clearly always took the time to pay attention to what they put on in the morning. Students from other schools almost always looked like they had just rolled out of bed. And our work load was no different- people just seem to wear what they think they can get away with. However, my standards are different depending on where I am. When I go back home to Alaska I pretty much go into shock if anyone is wearing something other than flared jeans and an oversized hoodie. And even though when I'm in the city I tend to live in jeans and t-shirts, I always make sure that they're kicked up a notch. Okay, I swear I'm done now haha crazygirl93 6 years Clohtes have a bit of an effect for me... auddie 6 years My girlfriends and I all judge guys on their shoes, especially any guy we might date! I definitely judge people by their clothes, but more about whether they are dressed appropriately or put effort into their appearance, than whether they are really stylish or their clothes are expensive. partysugar 6 years I know I shouldn't but I always check out a person's clothes first. I also judge a book by it's cover and a bottle of wine by it's label. It's horrible I know but I am the first to acknowledge my extreme materialism. Sweet Tea 6 years i'm sure that clothing has some subconscious effect on me, but, unless what the person is wearing is outside the norm of the situation (above or below average)-- I can't remember what anyone is wearing. I usually notice how people treat those around them or how they carry themselves-- that is what sticks in my mind. I would be the worst eye-witness ever--"Yes, officer I was there, I have no idea what he was wearing--but he seemed polite, and in a terrible rush." daisy077 6 years clothes definitely define a LOT about a person to me, and they are the FIRST thing i notice most importantly. It doesnt mean I am only going to like certain people for how the dress, i have friends with all sorts of styles and some with NO STYLE whatsoever. LaLaLaurie06 6 years obviously people are going to notice how you dress. I always feel more confident when I'm wearing a really nice outfit that fits me well, regardless if it's sweats or a dress. But if I go out in public in the latest fashion and I smell bad or am really evil to everyone, I think they will remember that before they remember what I was wearing. a gentle rain 6 years I didn't even think about that glam, but you're right. Though some people's jobs require certain clothes, others don't. And I judge those. Scientists have discovered that a first impression is made within three seconds. Clothes factor in a bit, but also posture, how sober you are, and, probably who you are with. As far as I'm concerned, as long as you are clean (VERY important), neat, matching (to the point where it looks like you made some effort to find coinciding pieces) and friendly, I'm happy. __nicci 6 years Used to care a lot, then I thought well sometimes I have off days. So this just might be one of theirs. ;] glam sugar 6 years I do take clothes into consideration. If someone is wearing something that is dirty or all shredded it says to me that they just don't care. (unless they're painting or doing some other work where you wouldn't wear nice clothes) baltimoregal 6 years It's not the price of the clothes, it's how they're put together and how they express a person. shini 6 years I dunno, just basing my impressions on clothes make me feel too judgemental...Its hard in some cases but usually not.. kh312 6 years i try not to base first impressions on clothes, but i do subconsciously.however personality and confidence definitely come first.but i think people should make an effort to look good. cocca 6 years i think personality and opinions are more important than clothes, but clothes is second since i love fashion, we'll have a lot more in common i she loves fashion too. Bellatrix 6 years Clothes are one thing. The attitude is the most important one though. I can be very unforgivable when meeting a haughty person, no matter how well she is dressed. Then again, someone with rather poor taste or old shabby clothes will not be classified "odd" or "not to care much about" because of that at all! As long as you're well washed and show a minimum care about your overall health and hygiene. I'm a college student too and most students struggle for money... It's impossible to have a wardrobe à la Sex&The City for us. JessNess 6 years Depends on the situation. On campus I dont really pay attention because well its college.Im constantly surrounded by grad students who definitely do not have money for clothes so they are not always the best dressed. HOWEVER if you are wearing pajamas or a mini skirt paired with UGGS I will definitely scorn you!!! At jobs clothes are really important. Im always surprised by what people wear to job interviews Princess Rebecca 6 years MUCH! You Might Also Like beach Mar 22, 2007 WTF?!
