How to Shop For Vintage Clothing, Bags, and Jewelry
How to Shop Vintage: Everything You Need to Know From the Pros!
Favorite Piece to Shop Vintage: Vintage rock 'n' roll tees have a special place in my heart. I've gotten some of my best history lessons digging through vintage tees.
Easiest Era to Shop For: More recent eras, like the '80s and '90s, older vintage is becoming harder and harder to find.
Jewelry 101: Abuse it before you buy it . . . just a little! Some metals, like silver, can be very soft and bend and break easily
Handbag Dos and Don'ts: Do: check the pockets, sometimes something sticky or weird is left in the pocket to age. Don't: Faux leather bags flake easily; stick to leather!
Hot Vintage Trends: White/ecru lace and crochet, vintage tees, '70s printed maxidresses, jumpsuits, and the perfect cutoff short.
Flea Markets vs. Stores vs. Online: I started Nasty Gal on eBay, and I still love shopping vintage on eBay. You can find great stuff for really cheap, and they're so many sellers now! If you have the time, it's flea markets all the way.
Favorite Vintage Stores: Painted Bird in San Francisco; Amarcord in Williamsburg, Brooklyn; and Squaresville in Los Angeles.
