Kate Middleton Channels Grace Kelly in Her Gorgeous Alexander McQueen Gown

When we first saw Kate Middleton, now Princess Catherine, in her wedding gown, we were speechless at how beautifully the Sarah Burton-designed gown came out. Upon taking a closer look, we realized that the princess's dress resembled that of another iconic princess — Grace Kelly. It's easy to see why Kate would be inspired by the Princess of Monaco; her dress was classically gorgeous, sophisticated, and ladylike, without being too over the top. From the lace sleeves, to the form-fitting bodice, to the delicate veil, Kate's gown was a contemporary take on the late, great Grace's elegant style.

I loved the dress, and the fact that it was reminiscent of Grace Kelly only made me love it more. I think it's funny that people keep saying "It wasn't Kate, I wish she wore something more her". Do you know her? I mean this is one of the most important days of her life, regardless of becoming ROYALTY, like any other bride-you're going to wear a dress that makes you feel good. And, while this TOO is an assumption, she seems like she's been able to stand up for herself and her fashion choices so far without much interference- so I think it's safe to assume she was behind the design of this dress.

Aside from the lacey sleeves, it really isn't that similar to Grace's. The skirt is a completely different shape. The neckline is a completely different shape. The train is a completely different shape. Grace's bodice had buttons, Kate's did not. Kate's skirt had pleats, Grace's did not. Grace had a sash, Kate did not. Kate wore a tiara, Grace did not.

I loved the dress, but I've seen it before and it belongs to another iconic princess. Had Kate been marrying another less notable royal, it would be fine, but when you marry the future king on England, your dress should be yours, not an almost exact replica of another icon. I love, love the dress, but I wish she would have done something that was her own a bit more.

This was a beautiful dress. Although it was reminiscent of Grace Kelly, Kate Middleton made it her own by adding the V-neck which has become her "signature" look, in my opinion. I loved the dress and the natural makeup.
