Malin Akerman Updates the Sheath With a Funky Geometric Print

Now that Spring is upon us, we can't wait to break out our stem-baring frocks that were pushed aside during those chilly Winter months.

Now that Spring is upon us, we can't wait to break out our stem-baring frocks that were pushed aside during those chilly Winter months. Blonde beauty Malin Akerman did just that when she showcased a fresh take on the classic sheath, donning a geometric Lacoste dress to the design house's Spring/Summer 2012 launch in LA. The actress paired her colorful mini — which will be available in April in Lacoste stores for $550 — with leg-lengthening nude pumps and matching blue eye shadow. Copy Malin's look with a bold geometric sheath, nude patent pumps, a cobalt clutch, and loose beach waves for your next date night. Then come April, score her exact dress — which would also look amazing over a black turtleneck and ankle booties for a chillier evening.

Malin Akerman and Ashley Madekwe Sport Super Cute Lacoste Minidresses

Just when we thought minidresses were over, we get proof that they are indeed a must in our Spring wardrobe.

Just when we thought minidresses were over, we get proof that they are indeed a must in our Spring wardrobe. Malin Akerman hosted Lacoste's launch event for their Spring 2012 collection and wore a little blue silk minidress with geometric prints from the line. We love the clean, crisp design and the vaguely nautical color palette, we love the simplicity of her look — no jewelry, just nude platform heels, and we love her beachy hair. It's a breezy Summer look, and this dress would look just as cute with a pair of tennis shoes or strappy sandals for a day of shopping or brunching. Revenge star Ashley Madkwe chose a navy blue dress with asymmetric hems that made it feel a bit longer than it actually is and paired it with cool gray platform sandals. With the sedate palette, Ashley took some bold steps in the beauty department, doing a red, red lip, a yellow manicure, and a peach pedicure. The pops of color look fantastic against the navy and the blue. Want their looks? The spring dresses will be available online starting April 1st, but if you need a minidress fix right now, you can shop our picks below. Remember: when wearing a minidress, keep everything else simple a la Malin and Ashley!

Sometimes You've Gotta Keep It Classic Like Zoe Saldana

We absolutely adore all the latest trends, from colored denim to florals to pastels, but Zoe Saldana's classic look that she wore while out in LA is a breath of fresh air.

We absolutely adore all the latest trends, from colored denim to florals to pastels, but Zoe Saldana's classic look that she wore while out in LA is a breath of fresh air. Sometimes you just want to forgo all the fluff and keep it simple. And on those days, follow Zoe by layering a timeless Lacoste trench over a chambray shirt and Genetic Denim ankle-zip skinnies then adding black suede booties and a leather tote. As you can see, this ensemble is super sleek and easy to re-create at home with your favorite khaki jacket, denim blouse, and black bottoms. Toss on a pair of ankle booties and aviators, like Zoe's Ray-Ban pair, to complete the classic, cool look.

Lacoste Fall 2012

If the snow outside wasn't enough for NYFW attendees, Felipe Oliveira Baptista provided a few snowflakes of his own for Lacoste's Fall runway show this morning at Lincoln Center.
Lacoste Runway Fall 2012

If the snow outside wasn't enough for NYFW attendees, Felipe Oliveira Baptista provided a few snowflakes of his own for Lacoste's Fall runway show this morning at Lincoln Center. As fake snow blew into the audience, Oliveira Baptista set the tone for his sporty chic ski-inspired line. Mixing in the old — Oliveira Baptista referenced uniforms the brand designed for France's 1966 national ski team — with the new, the designer conceived a smart mix of body-conscious pieces fitting for any après-ski occasion. One can easily head to the slopes, or to the cabin, in one of Oliveira Baptista's rugby-meets-ski minidresses and jumpsuits or sport-striped leggings paired with chic oversized parkas and coats. Leather quilted vests and jackets injected a luxurious touch to the overt sportif theme. With a play on fashionable function, Oliveira Baptista experimented with zippers, some of which opened up all the way up to the shoulders to replicate the look of a cardigan tossed over your shoulder, while others served as pockets for hoods disguised as a stylish oversized collar. More details from the collection below.

  • Trends: Oversized parkas, colorblock, sporty zipper accents.
  • Colors: Blue, red, off-white, gray, navy blue, black.
  • Key Piece: We loved the oversized parka jackets and luxurious quilted leather jackets and vests.
  • Accessories: Leather platform boots, wool and leather bucket bags, snow goggles/sunglasses, leather gloves.
  • Who Would Wear It: Anyone looking for a sporty play on Winterwear or otherwise, heading to a ski retreat or chic après-ski event.

Lacoste Fall 2012

>> Let it snow.
Lacoste Runway 2012 Fall

>> Let it snow. For his second season at Lacoste, Felipe Oliveira Baptista hip the slopes with a collection of Alpine-ready separates. Tapping the brand's 1966 contract with the French national ski team, Baptista sent down a cohesive assortment of streamlined separates that managed to feel nostalgic and modern all at once. A series of body-skimming, zippered knits were done in red, blue, gray, and ivory colorblock; jackets and tops were cut round-shouldered and then split cape-like at the sleeve; and there was plenty of leather to be found throughout. Baptista also injected a terrific bit of print into the collection: a multicolored, hatch-like plaid — which upon closer inspection revealed itself to be the weave of a fabric magnified to the umpteenth degree. This was the kind of elegant sportswear a modern city girl could really get behind.

Lacoste Spring 2012

Felipe Oliveira Baptista redefined the term "sport chic" today for his debut as the creative director of French sportif brand Lacoste at New York Fashion Week.
Lacoste: Spring 2012

Felipe Oliveira Baptista redefined the term "sport chic" today for his debut as the creative director of French sportif brand Lacoste at New York Fashion Week. From beginning to end, Baptista pulled us into his zone, offering up a bevy of polished sportswear via silk anoraks, sexy silk dresses, bold colorblocked dresses, and louche silk blouses. Crisp jackets and tunic-length tops were perfectly tailored, and refreshing layering techniques, like pairing a collared pinafore-inspired dress over a cropped top, drew us in even more. Geo print pieces — we especially loved the turquoise and cobalt blue long-sleeved printed dress — hit all the right notes on this season's popular sport trend. Check out more highlights from the collection below.

  • Trends: Silk utilitarian ponchos and anoraks, crop tops, colorblock dresses.
  • Colors: Red, blue, black, sunshine yellow, white.
  • Key Look: Any of the silk ponchos and printed pieces.
  • Accessories: Two-tone sandals, sporty sunglasses.
  • Who Would Wear It: Chic prepsters or girls looking for a modern spin on classic sportswear.

“It all comes down to pushing the iconic elements that are known globally in a new direction,” explained Oliveira Baptista. “But I also wanted to develop what Lacoste hasn’t really done before, like more outerwear, and tailoring.”

Wide-legged trousers, cropped jackets, and printed shift dresses also got play. “I wanted to add pieces that allow you to wear Lacoste every day — not just for sports or the weekend,” Oliveira Baptista noted.
