Not only did I adore the wide patent piped belts in Gucci's Spring collection, I also went ga-ga for these Gucci Corset Patent Heels ($740). They have a bit of the lace-up motif that's popular right now, but at the same time they're super slick. But that price is far from super . . .

These Soiree Laced Band Patent Pumps ($170) aren't cheap, but it sure seems like it next to Gucci's $740. There are slight differences, like a thicker heel and thinner band, but they're just as unique. If you can't afford the Gucci pair, this is the best alternative.

I like them both, but your cheaper alternative I'd be more likely to buy, and not just because of the price: it would be much easier to walk with and it looks like it would be more comfortable for someone who doesn't have tiny perfect princess feet!

I hear you, Kiki. Back in the Sex and the City days, all the expensive shoes were about $400. I never thought that I'd look back on those days fondly as the days of the cheap designer shoes.

Can Fab, or anyone, pinpoint the exact season that designers apparently decided to double the price of their shoes? I think it's just gotten ludicrous... the last pair of designer shoes I bought were a Miu Miu pair that cost around €250, and that was at full price, and I remember €200-€400 being the average price range for designer shoes. How, why and when did that become €600-€800? Is it that they tested the method on handbags (ie, doubled the prices) and it created the "IT" bag phenomenon, so they decided to try their luck with shoes? Whatever the case, it sucks! Before you could realistically save up and treat yourself to a pair a season, but seriously, when they start costing the same as your mortgage it's time to go to Topshop for some lookalikes :OY:
