Mariacarla Boscono Had a Hand in Riccardo Tisci's Appointment at Givenchy

>> Riccardo Tisci
and his friend and muse, Mariacarla Boscono, appear on one of i-D's three fresh-from-the-press Pre-Spring 2010 covers; the others feature Natasha Poly and Rihanna.

Tisci and Boscono go way back. When Tisci was first starting out, pre-Givenchy, he lost backing weeks before a show; devastated, he ended up going to a friend's embroidery factory in New Delhi.  When he returned to Milan in the Fall of 2004, two weeks before Fashion Week, it was Mariacarla who, impressed with the three bags full of hand-embroidered clothes Tisci brought back, pestered him into pulling together a show, he tells the new issue of LOVE. They cobbled together an off-schedule and technivally illegal production in an old garage, with Karen Elson in a tulle evening gown doing stunts on a BMX.  Police shut the show down, but right after he presented a follow-up collection, he got the call from Givenchy.

Would Tisci ever revive his own label? »

Tisci abandoned his own label, less than a year old, for Givenchy — would he revive it some day? "One day, like a child when it has grown and is walking by itself," he tells LOVE, "you can have a second kid. But right now is the best moment for Givenchy, and I want to take it even higher."
