Last weekend, I found myself in dire need of a pair of sexy, badass heels. After staring at my shoe closet for what turned out to be half an hour, I gave up and opted for chunky platform sandals. If the stars were aligned, I would have seen these Max Studio Xan Leather Sandals ($99, originally $165) a week earlier. I'm obsessed with the leather slits and sexy, skinny heel — a little funky, a lot fresh.

Celebrity Style: Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon's airport look is one of the reasons I love Fall. The season is all about bundling up in rich hues, and Reese nailed it. She fused black with purple and brown with refinement and ease. The actress also knows that cardigan dresses are the perfect way to simultaneously combine chicness and comfort. Thanks to her purple pashmina, brown riding boots, square sunnies, and gold jewelry, the look is cozy and cool.

Trend Alert: Black Eyelet

Eyelets have taken on a new color — black.

Eyelets have taken on a new color — black. The traditional eyelet has been associated with Raggedy Anne dowdiness and hot Summer days but has since gone way of the dark side; evoking a sexier, mature look. See Victoria Beckham wearing a flirty, black eyelet Milly dress. Sidenote: Milly, really? Cool Posh.

Nicole Richie stepped out for some shopping and a refreshing drink in her much-loved boho style. She made this Karen Zambos Vintage Couture dress her own with her trademark Balenciaga, oversized sunnies, and Grecian sandals. I suppose we should be adding the H (for Harlow!) initial necklace to that list now too. It's good to see Nicole out and about more often, though I'm sure she's being kept busy in her new mommy role!

Why couldn't Katie Holmes have had lunch at Joan's on Third when I was there during LA Fashion Week?!

Why couldn't Katie Holmes have had lunch at Joan's on Third when I was there during LA Fashion Week?! Oh well. The actress took a break from gowns and opted for a more down-to-earth look for the afternoon. Still, she gave her yellow trench coat and black skinny jeans a kick of fancy via the strappy heels. Armani has its place, but I like the laid-back Katie!

We showed you many fabulous Spring shoe styles in our March Shopping Madness series but one style I am particularly drawn to are Medusa shoes. Like the Greek legend herself, something about the swirls and knots on these is so enchanting. We've seen snakes come and go in the fashion, but these are more wearable and less fierce. And, you don't have to worry about people turning to stone after gazing down at your sexy, swirly feet.

Some trends take a while to warm up to. Such was the case with turning Japanese. Don't get me wrong: I love sushi, martial arts films and Memoirs of a Geisha, I just haven't found any items that suit me from "The Land of the Rising Sun." Alas, fashion has worked its mojo once again and origami folds, cherry blossoms and obi belts have some serious staying power — Rachel Weisz turned Japanese in Alexander McQueen's shift dress at left. Turning Japanese I think I'm turning Japanese I really think so . . .

Every now and again an all-black outfit appears that rouses the senses more than a colorful one does.

Every now and again an all-black outfit appears that rouses the senses more than a colorful one does. Kate Hudson had that effect on me in her black dress with thumb holes, double-breasted blazer, tights, and black pumps. Her blonde hair and hoop earrings are the perfect contrast to her look. If you're in the mood for all black, copy Kate!
