The Fashion Crowd Never Wears the Same Dress All Night

May 6 2014 - 9:11am

Post-Met Gala, the style crowd lasted well into the wee hours of the morning, though some of their gowns did not. After making their debut on the Costume Institute Gala's red carpet [1], celebs retired their drama-inducing gowns and custom confections in favor of more casual (or in Kristen Stewart [2]'s case, a lot more casual) clothes. If it were up to us, we'd be happy to wear the princess dress all night, but having a second look certainly keeps the night more interesting — just scroll through to see who surprised us with a costume change for the afterparty.

Rita Ora

Rita didn't stray too far from her red carpet look, with an afterparty ensemble that seemed inspired by the same sparkly, champagne confection. She also chose to finish the look with the same lace-up heels.

Karolina Kurkova

For her arrival at the Costume Institute Gala, the model stunned in a sculptural strapless Marchesa gown [3] but ditched the dramatic silhouette in favor of a lacy body-con sheath at the afterparty.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

The supermodel traded one minidress for the next, opting to replace her Balmain with an animal-print creation at the afterparty (with Olivier Rousteing).

Suki Waterhouse

Long gone were her frothy Burberry tulle layers when Suki arrived at the afterparty in a colorblock coat and what appeared to be a strappy mini underneath.

Diane Kruger

From pale pastel to bright red, Diane slipped into a fiery sheath for the late-night festivities.

Lily Donaldson

The model went from sweet, with a bow-tied back, to a sexy cutout number after the gala.

Maggie Gyllenhaal

She may have changed gowns, but the themes — and the label! — remained a constant. Maggie switched out her first Valentino gown for a second, floral-print one at the afterparty.

Karen Elson

From pretty princess to a more modern party dress, Karen traded a pink full skirt for a slim sparkly dress with a low back.

Charlize Theron

She kept the blazer, but Charlize swapped her floor-length Christian Dior gown for a geometric-print mini.

Kristen Stewart

Kristen made her entrance in Chanel but exited in her preferred dressed-down uniform of denim and Converse.

Kate Bosworth

Kate chose a pastel-hued Stella McCartney gown for her big arrival but brought out an LBD for late night.

Arizona Muse

The model played the the ultimate girlie girl in a full red gown then borrowed from the boys in a sleek suit.

Claire Danes

She posed for pictures in her two-toned gown, but Claire didn't keep it on for the afterparty. Instead, she headed out in a white blazer and leather pants.

Cara Delevingne

Cara was casual on the red carpet, but got even more so at the afterparty.

Joan Smalls

Joan kept her hair and makeup consistent, but ditched her gown in favor of low-rise jeans, a crop top, and Ruthie Davis heels.

Kate Upton

Kate's looks are like night and day, but they do have one thing in common – lots of lace!
