The return of Downton Abbey is a cause for well-dressed celebration, and star Michelle Dockery attended a season four event in a pretty pink dress that tapped into her girliest side. The long-sleeved, pleated Miu Miu frock hit above the knee, and for accessories, she went classic, carrying a Prada clutch and wearing satin peep-toe heels. We love Miu Miu for its flirty, feminine aesthetic that comes down the runway, along with the bevy of gorgeous beauty looks. So it was only a matter of time before the brand took its first steps into the beauty industry, and what better way to do that than with a fragrance line? Coty International has just announced that it will team up with Prada Group to release Miu Miu's first ever perfume. "Miu Miu is one of the most refined and respected luxury houses in the world and one of the fastest growing brands in the whole fashion industry," said Michele Scannavini, CEO of Coty Inc. "It is an exciting opportunity for Coty to build a worldwide fragrance business for Miu Miu." While no mention has been made as to what the line will look like (or, for that matter, smell like), it does have a 2015 release date. So Miu Miu fans of the world will just have to wait for what is sure to be a must-have scent.
Playful beauty is the standard at Miu Miu, and the look at Miuccia Prada's Spring 2014 show was no different. Like we've seen in her past shows, Prada threw the focus onto the eyes. Pretty pastel hues were dusted gently across models' eyelids, while the rest of the eye was kept bare. Gloss on the lips and barely-there brows were the only other standouts on the makeup side, which complemented the gamine collection. As for the hair, models looked as if they stepped out of the '70s. Long, slightly bent strands glided across their shoulders (and got caught in their lip gloss) as they walked, creating an effortless look that will be easy to replicate come Spring.
Miuccia Prada laid the groundwork for her Spring 2014 Miu Miu collection with the inventive decor for the show, giving the audience a glimpse at the charming prints to come with wallpaper panels. The coats were a clear standout of the cheerful show, with animal motifs emblazoned the sides of swingy single breasted styles while red trim and oversize buttons gave a charming gamine quality to a long navy peacoat. But if you're more in the mood to party, there were party dresses galore from puff-ball strapless dress with incredible ruching to give volume while maintaining a sense of lightness to slinky little beaded slipdresses with enough beaded tassels and fringe to satisfy anyone's inner Daisy Buchanan (or the jam-packed front row including Prada fans Michelle Dockery and Lena Dunham). It's not often than a collection is wearable and covetable, but we're starting a fantasy fund for that cat-print coat right now.
In glancing back at the many Miu Miu presentations, one thing is certain: designer Miuccia Prada has a thing for the eyes. Every season, her team seems to find new ways to bring light to this stunning feature. While the shoes may be the brand's shining glory, these top makeup palettes could rival any fancy footwear. In honor of Paris Fashion Week, which starts next Tuesday, take a closer look at the best beauty from the fashion brand's runways past.
Whether you prefer them skinny, suede, wide, or studded, this season's belt trends are sure to complement all of your outfits. Take note from the runways of Alexander McQueen and Prada by styling your pencil skirts and structured tops with bolder, wider renditions, or channel Marc by Marc Jacobs's classic '70s style in skinnier silhouettes. And once the temperature drops, cinch one over your Winter coat for a directionally chic appeal.
Take note from the boys, and don a pair of cap-toe shoes for a polished take on off-duty style. Pair Prada's or Miu Miu's sleek black-and-white combos with cropped denim jeans and a blazer for an easy weekend look, or get studly with Christian Louboutin's subversive spike details. For a more neutral take in the trend, check out tone-on-tone options from Stuart Weitzman, Vince, and Gianvito Rossi.
