Is there a more fashionable film festival than the one at Cannes? Based on the black-tie dress code and the sheer amount of couture worn on the red carpet there, it's fair to say that this French town — which witnessed the beginning of its 66th annual film festival on Wednesday — has seen some of the best-dressed women on earth.
And while this year is already shaping up to be spectacularly glamorous, there are more than a few dresses in years past that stick out as some of the most iconic ensembles in Cannes history. From the gold-spangled Lanvin dress Linda Evangelista wore on the carpet in 2008 to the Jean Paul Gaultier bustier Madonna wore in 1991, these gowns are sure to go down as some of the most-loved Cannes red carpet choices of all time.
