NY Fashion Week: Vera Wang

As one of America's preeminent wedding-dress designers, Vera Wang is accustomed to happy occasions, but the unveiling of her Spring 2007 collection at New York Fashion Week on Thursday was anything but joyful: The designer's father had passed away earlier that very morning. Wang wasted no time in dedicating the show to him, with notes in every seat that said "In Loving Memory of C.C. Wang."

The fashions were fittingly somber but also triumphant, with billowy black dresses, muted golds, and subtle tiers of ruffles. This was hands down the best use of volume I've seen thus far; despite the bubbly, drapey sleeves, the clothes looked like even a petite person could wear them without being overwhelmed. The only thing I wasn't crazy about were the jodhpur-like satiny pants. To see all of Fabsugar's Fashion Week coverage, click here. To view the rest of Vera Wang's runway show, read more
