New York Fashion Week, Fall 2008: Oscar de la Renta

As always, Oscar was all sophistication and elegance. The models trotted out to a live performance by Regina Spektor, who crooned and played a grand piano in the background. Full taffeta and tulle skirts swished by, ornately embellished — all with grandeur.

At times, the checkerboard tweed overcoats, shimmering skirt suits, and vivid silks were so beautiful I found myself subconsciously holding my breath. Fuzzy fur toques, beaded shearling vests, and rich jewel colors hinted at a Russian influence. Oodles of dresses for all occasions, Oscar's specialty, were present: day, cocktail, and gown. They all had one thing in common — the appearance of decadence. Ultimately, that's what Oscar is all about . . . a classic decadence.

*drools* Oscar de la Renta was the first designer I ever fell for. way back in like 8th/9th grade, I saw one of his dresses in vogue. it was my computer background, and i wanted him to make me my wedding dress. i seriously dreamed of going into his store in paris, and when i got there sophomore year of high school, they gave us like an HOUR for shopping (oh the horror) and told us nice was "just as good - and cheaper" and by that... i never should have listened to a high school guidance counselor who thought and in french was "y". she just used her spanish and tried to make it sound french! anyhow...i love this collection. everything. from the fur accents to the dresses and REGINA SPEKTOR!!!!!! SERIOUSLY!!! i wish i had been there!! wow
