Daphne Guinness Stops Time in Haute Living Magazine

"Time is infinite, but we are not infinite in it," Daphne Guinness says in the new issue of Haute Living.
Daphne Guinness by Nick Knight For Haute Living | 2012

"Time is infinite, but we are not infinite in it," Daphne Guinness says in the new issue of Haute Living.

Guinness was thinking about time as she styled herself and worked with Nick Knight for a photo shoot in the issue. Incidentally, the images feature watches from Roger Dubuis's Velvet collection, and Guinness recently signed on as the brand's ambassador. In one of the photos, the eccentric style icon is seen swinging upside down from a trapeze.

Likewise, the accompanying interview is filled with Guinness's trademark wit. The ambassadorship seems to have caused her to think a little more philosophically about the passing of time. "In what time are we? Are we in space time?" she asks her interviewer before explaining that she's obsessed with time's precision. "The Julian calendar is off," she says.

"The idea of art and time is something that is perceived and Nick and I worked organically to show that you can do many things," she said later in the interview. "It's better to work with people with whom you know what you are going to get."

A look at the resulting images here in the gallery.

"I like men trendy, but not fashion victims. It's more effortless," Roitfeld explained of her choice to cast nonmodels. Nick Knight photographed French actor Tahar Rahim for the cover, and a bonus pinup calendar (left) — featuring supermodels and Victoria's Secret Angels photographed by Willy Vanderperre — will supplement the issue.

Garage Magazine

>> Here's the first glimpse of Dasha Zhukova's much-anticipated new magazine, Garage. Hitting newstands September 5th, the magazine's main editorial — as well as one of it's three covers —  was photographed by Hedi Slimane and features some provactively-placed tattoos. "The 'INKED' project is really emblematic of the mission of the magazine — bringing together individuals from diverse creative fields to produce something compelling and bold," Zhukova said of the magazine's inaugural theme. Jeff Koons, Richard Prince, Paul McCarthy, and Damien Hirst were all tapped to design tattoos for the issue; it's Hirst's version that graces the main cover, which ships with a peel-back modesty sticker in the shape of a butterfly (left).

The two alternative covers of Garage feature the work of prominent artists as well: one cover features a Nick Knight and Dinos Chapman image of a doll house with a Lily Donaldson doll playing inside, while the other cover features a tattoo design created by Richard Prince. Despite the alternative covers, W.H. Smith has already banned the magazine from sale at its stores in England. However, Barnes & Noble will stock the magazine.
