Freaky or Fabulous? Paris Vogue Gives Anti-Fur the Finger

European Vogue magazines are pushing some fashion buttons. Alas, fashion must always be exciting, daring, and innovative. Can I get an amen?

First, Vogue Italia's all-black July issue and now editor Carine Roitfeld, with photog Mario Testino and muse Raquel Zimmermann, take a stand for fur. One of the longest standing debates in fashion — and here on Fab — Vogue is clearly saying "in your face antifur advocates." This spread is provocative and aggressive; from the high-octane furs to the black leather to the raccoon-eyed model. It's powerful.

Powerful, but is it freaky or fabulous?

There is no debate here. I'm sure all of you wear leather, it's the same thing just a different production process. If you eat meat or wear leather, it makes no sense for you to judge others for wearing fur.

It isn't just a coat, it's an animal, with a mind, a life. It like a minor thing when we speak about that, like that... But it's not just an article, with debate, it's the reality. I'm sure you don't understand, but i don't speak english. ^^ Yes most of this fur debate will end when people find another way to kill the animals. Animals will killed but have a painless death.. ok. They are killed for eat so, if it's as important as eat, kill the for fur. But it is impossible to find a painless mean of death because most important is $$$. I know this is old, but I couldn't resist and show my opinion. First, I don't see it like French Vogue taking a stand for fur. It can be most of their message, but it's interesting, because they kind of divulge both sides of the topic and they're really publishing this topic. We don't see fashion magazines doing that kind of controversy, they just show models wearing fur. It's like saying "some people think fur is disgusting, but we think is fabulous. you decide what you think". they're not trying to impose an idea at all! About the photoshoot, I really like it besides the fact that I don't like Raquel. Now, about the fur debate. I just say: I LOVE fur, I think it's totally fab, classy. I just don't have one because it's pricey. But I don't see this videos, because I think if I see it I'd totally give up on fur. In other hand, most of this fur debate will end when people find another way to kill the animals. I mean, can't they give them poison or something less cruel that still preserves their fur?! I know this idea is not good, but if the animals live in a good place and, when comes the time, have a painless death, it would be okay! And I think it's kind of ridiculous to spend so much time think in about the fur when other more cruel things are done to wild animals around the world and even for humans. It like a minor thing! To wear a fur coat makes you in fashion, you feel good. & It's good for you... IF IT WAS LETHAL FOR NOBODY ! But animals are not just killed, they are tortured ! They terrifically suffer ! If you wear fur, you instantly become a murderer ! Today, we aren't obliged to wear fur to be fashioned or for be hot. It must change ! & we can't do that withoout you. Sorry i'm french. Personally I don't think they needed an entire editorial, the main photograph with the model giving the finger to the protestor is strong enough and the rest of the ed seems to be a bit ... watery in comparison. Imagine if the shoot had been done in the middle of a Siberian forest with some native tribesmen.

Rabbit fur or leather is totally ok to me. Any animal that is eaten i fine. I personally wouldn't wear any other fur, though.

I could never wear fur. I look at it and I just think it's...ugly. Plus the fact that you're wearing a dead animal is chilling.

WOW , look at the votes .. 50% 50% ..For me its Fabulous .. Fur is simply fashionable , its like one of the fundamentals of fashion history ..And just to be clear , I'm not against fur as long as its artificial..But I dnt think they're using artificial fur in these ads ..But , still , FAB !

I think certain fur can be worn ethically and humanely. First, I would only buy vintage -- I wouldn't want to encourage the market for new fur. Second, if we do produce new pelts it should be as part of "using the whole" -- if animals are culled from their herds out of necessity to combat overpopulation or are used for food. In my mind, it's difficult to be a carnivore and to argue that you can slaughter animals for the purpose being compressed into a nugget but not turn what's left over into a jacket.

wow ... could they have been anymore NON ORIGINAL? it's stupid. my 5 yr old niece could have thought that up. i hate it. she looks dead and the statement still doesn't justify killing animals for vanity- so the result: pointless and drab. HATE IT. it's not FREAKY it's plain DUMB.

killing animals for fashion is digusting.there really is no freakin need for you to wear fur. other materials work just as well to keep you warm and look less tacky. that's what i think of when i see women who wear fur and jack asses p.diddy and jay-z wearing fur...EFFIN TAAAAAAACKY!

I think fur wearers keep having to defend themselves because they know it downright stinks. I would be ashamed to be seen anywhere near someone like that.

To me, fur is only beautiful on alive animals.Sadly, people wearing fur remind me of the Nazis, using human skin for lamp shades.
