Spring 2011 New York Fashion Week: 3.1 Phillip Lim
Phillip Lim tried to have it both ways this season — some of his girls were decked out in leather contraptions resembling workaday aprons, while others wore crystal-embellished gowns fit for a starlet. Using lyrics from Charlotte Gainsbourg's song "Dandelion" as inspiration, Lim was feeling Springy with his palette of light "bougie" blues, blush pinks, and taupe. He transitioned from his smocks to tailored suits and separates in twill and silk. He also sent out a series of elaborate frocks, which were adorned with lambskin paillettes and rhinestones. Other amazing details spotted — embellished sleeves to cutaway backs and lace panels. He provided a contrast to all the polish by pairing each look with this season's ubiquitous wooden platforms.

The Park Avenue Armory location was chock-full of celebrities, with Rashida Jones and Alexa Chung competing for space alongside Kanye West. The stars had front-row views to check out the show, as well as the architectural stage design, which he says was inspired by the molding in his apartment.
