As the costume designer for Pretty Little Liars, Mandi Line knows how to put together an instantly covetable outfit. So, designing a buzz-worthy collection for Aéropostale of pieces inspired by the show's characters — a feat that took nine months — was very much an extension of the work she does with the show.

"I knew we needed some iconic pieces for the girls, like stripes for Aria, a blazer for Spencer, some kind of bomber jacket for Emily, and Hanna needed a dress," the show's costume designer told us about the newly released collection. "And we have three more collections coming out that are even more inspired by the show!"

But that's not all Line shared with us! We've got the scoop on what you can expect (style-wise, at least) from your favorite girls, how your tweets affect their outfits, and which pieces will actually be featured on the show.

POPSUGAR: Congratulations on the collection! Will we be seeing any of these pieces featured on the show?

Mandi Line: Oh yeah! Fifty percent of the clothes the girls wear! There's a studded pink jacket that's coming out — Lucy [Hale] wears it. This, the bomber jacket, Emily [Fields] wears it — and wants it. She loves it!

Emily's look: Wool Vest Jacket ($60, originally $120), Lipsticks Muscle Tank ($15, originally $30), Lola High-Rise Jegging ($27, originally $55)

PS: Do you style with any trends in mind?

ML: Costume designers don't do trends. We just know what the character wants. I mean, I look through magazines like Teen Vogue and Nylon, but I just kinda look at 'em if I feel like I need to see what the kids are wearing.

I always say I do what I wasn't allowed to do in high school. Lucy is the girl I wanted to be in high school but didn't have the money to be.

PS: What can we expect from the girls' style this season? Any big changes?

ML: Yes! Sh*t goes down with Spencer, and her style takes a nosedive — and I hated it. Lucy takes more risks. Hanna's skirts get shorter, and Emily gets sexier, which I love!

Spencer's look: Schoolboy Blazer ($40, originally $80), Sheer Chiffon Tank ($23, originally $47), Faux-Leather Skater Skirt ($28, originally $45)

PS: Could you give us a hint at what's to come from future collections?

ML: All I know is that Hanna's got this red rose [top] and leopard skirt — it's gonna be sick.

Hanna's look: Cropped Blazer ($45, originally $90), Lace Dress ($27, originally $55)

PS: We love what a strong following the show has, especially on Twitter. Has social media influenced the costumes at all?

ML: When I'm in Lucy's fittings, every now and again [we'll try on a piece] like the pastel motorcycle jacket that just aired, and Lucy will say, "I can't move, Mandi!" but we'll look at each other and know, "Oh, but this is going to be a good one!" We'll call each other at night and be like, "Dude, did you see that people are tweeting about that jacket? They're going crazy!" So, we will try to throw in pieces that we know [will do well on social media] — the kind of pieces that are sort of over the top that producers say no to, I'll tell the producers, "Just let us do this, because I promise you that they'll tweet the crap out of it."

PS: Do you have any favorite fashion moments from the show?

ML: Lucy's homecoming masquerade dress is my favorite, because we made it custom-made from the floor up. It was inspired by a dress from the VMAs from, like, 2004.

Aria's look: Faux-Leather Jacket ($60, originally $120), Long-Sleeve Crop Top ($15, originally $30), Side-Zip Skirt ($27, originally $55)
