Heidi Klum was the mistress of ceremonies this morning as the remaining 10 designers from the eighth season of Project Runway showed complete collections during Fashion Week. It was a little hectic navigating the new space at Lincoln Center, but the show began close to the 9:45 scheduled start time — first, though, attendees were in for a surprise with special guest judge Jessica Simpson, who took a break from promoting her own new clothes to judge those of the contestants. Joining her were Heidi, Nina Garcia, Michael Kors, and special guests like Jordin Sparks and Harvey Weinstein.
Only three of the 10 designers who showed today are still in the running, and I'd make an educated guess as to who they are. Ivy Higa, who showed a Hawaiian-inspired collection of beachy dresses, was among the best, as was Christopher Collins with his well-cut patterned separates. Finally, Michael Drummond presented a collection inspired by "Rothko, x-rays, and underwear" that managed to be edgy and sophisticated at the same. We won't know who wins until the finale later this year, but click through below to see the contestants' designs and make sure to stay tuned to Pop, Fab, and Bella for all the latest from NYC!

I was hooked on the last season of Project Runway, not only because of its geeky additions, but also for the fashion! I'm a girl who loves fabrics and style as much as I love my tech, so I was excited to hear that last season's winner, Seth Aaron, would be presenting his new solar-inspired collection at Portland's Fashion Week today.Influenced by SolarWorld's sleek panels and its Hillsboro, OR, HQ, Seth designed a new, futuristic take on the LBD. But it's not just Seth who's got solar on the brain. "Solar is the New Black" is the theme for this year's Portland Fashion Week, and all of the designers' collections will be seen on models who will walk a solar panel-laced catwalk.
>> Nina Garcia: Editors Should Be On TV, "Whether You Want It or Not" —Nina Garcia, who's been on Project Runway for eight seasons now, was skeptical about being on a reality TV show at first: “I’m really very shy when it comes to being out there, so my initial reaction was: ‘No, I’m not going to be part of the show, it’s crazy. Who cares about fashion? Who’s going to watch it?’” But, she says: “The fashion editor as it used to be has changed. Now you have to wear many hats, and whoever tells you differently is wrong. Now you’re on TV, whether you want it or not.” Garcia, 45, who is due in December with her second son, is now tackling a different challenge — the prospect of dressing for Fashion Week while seven months pregnant. “That,” she said, “will be a vexing situation.” [NY Times]
Leopard prints come in all sizes. There are tiny leopard dots, midsized ones, then there are the latest hottest magnified prints a la Chloé's Resort '10 blouse Heidi Klum wore on the second episode of Project Runway. If you're digging this oversized leopard motif, then get yourself this ModCloth Stealth Style Cardigan ($50) as an alternative to the expensive Chloé top. Pair it over a white V-neck tee with skinny green cargos, cinch your waist with a skinny brown belt, and you have yourself a designer look for less!

Season eight of Project Runway premiered last night — did you watch? The big twist was that the first episode was actually the last phase of the audition process. As if that wasn't brutal enough, there were so many more unexpected turns that Heidi and Tim clearly loved delivering to the hopefuls. One exciting change is that the accessories wall is now stocked by Piperlime, not Bluefly. I don't want to give anything else away, but for those who watched, join our Project Runway Fanatics group now, and vent away!
There are at least 10 things to look forward to on the new season of Project Runway, but is a more daring Heidi Klum wardrobe one of them? Hopefully! We're all about taking fashion chances, and if anyone can pull off edge, PR hostess Heidi can. She wore this avant-garde black and white jumpsuit combo to last night's NYC premiere and chose red suede platforms for a pop of color. Meet the new season's competitors, watch the premiere tonight, and tell me: does Heidi pull this off?
Project Runway kicks off its eighth season tonight on Lifetime, and as the network sneaks in some surprises and a new 90-minute running time, I'm getting nostalgic for old seasons. It's not just because eight sounds like a lot of seasons for a reality show, it's also because tonight is the series premiere of On the Road With Austin & Santino, starring two of my favorite PR contestants ever.Santino Rice made season two for me, with his dead-on Tim Gunn impression, but I'll always have a special place in my heart for the inaugural season, which Austin Scarlett and winner Jay McCarroll made memorable. But if I'm being honest, I think the best season for competition was season three, when Jeffrey Sebelia won. Enough about me: what season of Project Runway was your favorite?
