Rachel Zoe on Fall 2012 Collection

Hi. This is Allison McNamara and you're watching Fab Flash at New York Fashion Week. I caught up with Rachel Zoe at the Empire Hotel where she showed her fall collection and this season Rachel looked to music and her favorite band for inspiration. This is a bit more rock and roll. This is a bit more latexy London is very much that kind of amazing music era in fashion of like The Stones, The Beatles, Marianne Unfaithful and all of that and kind of take that and put it into today and This is my interpretation of that. The stylist turned designer is showing her second collection here at New York Fashion Week and Rachel told me how being a stylist has influenced her design process. I don't know that it influences I think that's for better or for worse. It helps me and hurts me. I think the hurt is that I'm very close to it so it's hard to kind of separate being a designer and I kind of wanna edit things and I'm like, wait I love that, wait I wanna wear that. So it's a lot of stuff that goes back and forth in my head but I think that the good part of that is that I'm really styling looks that I created and piecing them together in a different way. I don't know, I'm pretty obsessive about it. And even though Rachel still styles A-list actresses, she doesn't design with a particular client in mind. I always have my clients in mind because I'm always thinking this one's personality is this. Oh, I could see this. But I think that my clients are very much the same as the women that I'm thinking of when I'm designing. Rachel recently launched her accessories line and she told me how much fun she had designing them. After all, who loves accessories more than Rachel Zoe. I launched with a very kind of tightly edited collection. There's some deco. There's some tassels. Obviously like huge statement dramatic pieces. Cups made of, you know, kind of gold plated bra.Swarovski and Jade and Onyx and just really dramatic, really really fun jewelry and cold weather accessories which has been so much fun to be able to style with like gloves and hats and scarves and it's been really fun. It's no secret that Rachel is a fashion mogul and she told me that she fell in love with at first Vogue. I'm gonna say when I started reading Vogue and I look at the work of Grace Coddington, I think I said I want to do that.
