When Team USA's athletes step foot in Sochi, Russia, for the 2014 Winter Olympics, they'll be wearing uniforms comprising American-made pieces from designer Ralph Lauren.
The classic American brand, which has a longstanding relationship with Team USA, revealed the opening-ceremony uniforms on this morning's episode of the Today show [1]. The uniform features a knit patchwork cardigan highlighted with handcrafted details and emblazoned with stars and spirited graphics. The complete looks — including cream turtleneck sweaters, white fleece athletic pants, black leather boots, and a cotton belt — are sure to make a splash when they enter the stadium.
"It is a privilege to be a part of dressing Team USA during the Sochi Games," says David Lauren, Ralph Lauren's executive vice president of advertising, marketing, and corporate communications. "It's a proud moment for us to watch these premier athletes as they walk out representing our nation on a global stage in front of billions of people worldwide."
The looks join the earlier-unveiled closing-ceremony uniforms (seen them below on skier Hannah Kearney and figure skater Evan Lysacek), which include a navy peacoat with a bright red stripe, a Nordic-inspired knitted sweater, and hard-wearing black boots — all of which were created on US soil.
In addition to these pieces, Ralph Lauren will sell a collection of villagewear (what the athletes will wear when they're not competing) to non-Olympians starting Nov. 15. The Games don't start until Feb. 7, but for now, here's a look at how the American team will dress in Sochi.
