Look who showed up looking soft and velvety? It's the gorgeous Penelope Cruz. The actress chose a body-hugging silhouette in black velvet Alaia — very lush. I usually like her dresses but I don't like this at all. Velvet? Yuck...also the neck reminds me a bit of an apron.

i don't know why i just love this velvet thing going on lately! it normally makes me think of gross cheap costumes but it's coming on in an interesting vintage way lately. and her makeup couldn't compliment the look better.

She never stood a chance with me, no matter what shape her dress is, I hate velvet with a fiery conviction, so it´s a big no from me

Its funny ... I used to love velvet as a kid but I HATE the look of it now. It just looks tacky to me most of the time. In this case it just looks blah.
