Simply Fab: J.Crew's Cozy Cashmere Wash

Let's face it: dry cleaning is a luxury and personally, I'd rather be spending my hard-earned money on other things. Thanks to J.Crew and The Laundress, I can cut back on the cleaners with this genius The Laundress For J.Crew Cashmere Wash ($18). This amazing concoction allows you to gently wash your cozy cashmere in the comfort of your own home. I already saved some money, and using this wash is actually better for your clothes than taking them to the dry cleaners — the toxic chemicals they use can slowly break down your precious delicates. Need, say, more?

ooh AmandaG, that's a great tip! i've been feeling like even Woolite is getting too expensive, so I'm going to try that. thanks!

I worked for a clothing designer back in the 90's and she recommended using baby shampoo (crazy cheap a little over a dollar) on silk, cashmere, or anything that is dry clean only. I even cheat and put it in the washing machine on delicate/ cold, then I dry flat. I made my own drying rack using salvaged window screens, also cheap!

I wouldn't pay $18 for this --- bussbuss is right - you can use generic woolite.

you can actually just use woolite or even the generic form (only about $5) in the washing machine on delicate... then lay flat to air dry. i've been doing that for years with my cashmere and it's supposed to be the best thing for it (you're right, dry cleaning IS the worst for cashmere b/c of the chemicals).

This is awesome! First of all, I despise paying so much for cashmere and then spending MORE money on cleaning it. Second, no one wants to give up their favorite cashmere sweater to the dry cleaner in the dead of winter, even if it is filthy! Great idea, and thanks for telling us about it.

Unfortunately I have no cashmere yet but when I get some I will def buy this. Good idea.
