Spring 2011 New York Fashion Week: Cynthia Rowley
Spring 2011 New York Fashion Week: Cynthia Rowley
Cynthia Rowley’s retro-pop collection was a real Saturday morning treat. As one of the first shows of day three, fashionistas were moving a little slower in their Louboutins (especially after last night's Fashion's Night Out events). Good thing Rowley drew an exciting star-studded front row — Rebecca Romijn looked gorgeous in towering heels and dramatic red lips, while Alan Cumming accessorized with Rowley’s signature Band-Aids on each hand. Other celebs waiting for the show to start? Lauren Bush, Aisha Tyler, Nigel Barker, Katie Lee, Emme, and Tracee Ellis Ross.

Once the lights dimmed, it wasn't long before Candyland pastel colors (mint greens, baby blues, salmon pinks) splashed onto the runway. The rainbow hues were color-blocked onto shiny below-the-knee silk dresses and transparent chiffon boatneck tees. Bold '70s necklaces in solid bar shapes were paired with both the shiniest and sheerest materials. To top it off, models sashayed one by one in printed platform heel/barely-there sock combos. Buttons, baubles, and appliqué details exploded at the neckline, hemline, and sleeve edges. Each piece featured a surprise design element, whether it was peek-a-boo stripes or strategically placed circular cutouts and embellishments. There was just enough colorful kitsch to go around, and everyone walked out with an extra bounce in their step.
