April Must Haves!

Apr 7 2013 - 7:20am

We're ecstatic that we're finally able to wear all of our pretty Spring things this month! That being said, our April shopping list includes an array of refreshing floral prints, chic totes, and statement accessories to finish off our warm-weather ensembles. We're also updating our shoe arsenal with a few new essentials — like striped espadrilles and leg-lengthening sandals — and plan on ditching our heavy jackets for lighter, brighter fare. Click through to shop all of our editors' April must haves now.

Zara's Crossover Blouse [1] ($70) is a chic, easy way to get into the sheer plaid trend without breaking the bank. I'll be taking a cue from the Dries Van Noten Spring runway show and styling this top with a sequined pencil skirt and pointy-toe pumps.

— Britt Stephens

It's about time I add a collar to my jewelry collection, and I'm eyeing the dual gold and aqua colors on this Adia Kibur Gold & Enamel Collar [2] ($55). The statement piece will add some glam to my work attire, and be the perfect finishing touch on a weekend-night-out LBD.

— Jen Michalski

Instead of throwing on my usual tee this season, I plan on amping up my Spring style with structured tops, like this gorgeous ASOS tattoo-print top [3] ($58).

— Chi Diem Chau

Cocktail dressing, the way Kate Bosworth [4] or Zoe Saldana [5] might do it. That's how I think of this Suno floral-print stretch-silk dress [6] ($695), and I'll hope to channel a little of those style setters' brand of chic whenever I wear it.

— Hannah Weil

There truly aren't many "words" to describe how cool Emerson Fry's Word Tee [7] ($68) is. I'll be wearing it all season, with everything from wide-legged jeans and slouchy printed shorts for daytime to an edgy pair of leather leggings for the weekend.

— Britt Stephens

I love putting away my boots and galoshes and switching to loafers when it warms up. After months of nothing but snow and rain, getting to wear the Cole Haan Air Pinch Penny [8] ($168) is a pure joy.

— Justin Fenner

If you're on the hunt for a new jacket to reinvigorate your Spring wardrobe, look no further than this shawl-collar Addison topper [9] ($198). From the refreshing spearmint hue to the tailored eyelet details, this jacket is sure to be the topic of conversation wherever you go. Layer it over your favorite floral mini or keep it cool with an all-white ensemble.

— Mandi Villa

I plan to wear this Ralston five-panel camper hat [10] ($44) with fun silk overalls, a tank, and my go-to canvas sneakers all Summer long.

— Meg Cuna

I don't consider myself a denim jacket girl, but I fell instantly in love with this Diesel + Edun collarless denim jacket [11] ($348) because the mock collar makes it so different than all the other ones I've seen. I can't wait to throw it on top of all my looks to give them a cool-girl spin.

— Melody Nazarian

This Fredericks and Mae for Baggu [12] ($180) drawstring tassel purse falls right in line with my Spring simplicity mantra. I love the simple bucket bag silhouette and chic camel hue.

— Chi Diem Chau

This isn't just any plaid top — the material in this Joe Fresh Madras Shirt [13] ($29) is so light and airy that it's sure to keep you cool on even the balmiest day.

— Justin Fenner

Whenever I look at the Coach Bleecker City Weekend Tote [14] ($498), I immediately get visions of fabulous weekend trips to the Hamptons. Just think of how amazing the leather and canvas will look as it gets beat up at the beach.

— Robert Khederian

I usually prefer briefcases to backpacks, but the colorblocking on the Herschel Settlement Bag [15] ($55) might just change my mind.

— Justin Fenner

Minibags couldn't be better for warm weather — sling one on and go all day and night. I love this bright yellow Full-Circle bag [16] ($90) from the new Kate Spade [17] Saturday line, for not only being a perfect pop of color, but also the perfect price.

— Melissa Liebling-Goldberg

This Marais USA sailor wedge [18] ($175) has "sunny days ahead" written all over it. Plus, the espadrille sole and preppy stripe detail supply the perfect offset to my classic cropped jeans and white tee looks.

— Marisa Tom

I'll admit, I'm the first to throw my hands up in the air when I hear "Empire State of Mind." 3.1 Phillip Lim [19]'s ode to NYC in this New York City Tank Top [20] ($150) reminds me of the tulip beds in front of the Plaza Hotel in Summer, as well as the designer's ineffable cool. Let's call it required wearing for the Jay-Z show at Yankee Stadium this Summer.

— Melissa Liebling-Goldberg

If there's one thing I can be counted on style-wise, it's a consistency in my "less is more" jewelry policy. That's why when I spotted this Daniela Bustos Maya Quintillo necklace [21] ($55), it was love at first sight. Thanks to the antique coin pendant and longer rope length, it has a silhouette that's both easy and so cool.

— Marisa Tom

I've had the same old computer bag for years simply because I couldn't find anything that appealed to me, until I saw this Want Les Essentials De La Vie O'Hare shopper tote [22] ($350). It's roomy enough for work essentials and built for comfort with two different strap options. Plus, the print adds just the right amount of flavor.

— Meg Cuna

Much to everyone's chagrin, Spring has its chilly days. AllSaints' Bleek Leather Bomber Jacket [23] ($435) is light enough to keep out the cold, and it'll still look undeniably cool when Fall rolls around.

— Justin Fenner

Practical? Absolutely. But more importantly, these Vince Lara banded sandals [24] ($375) are just downright gorgeous; from the buttery leather to the banded straps, I'll want to wear them everyday and I will because of their sensible heel and go-with-everything, leg-lengthening hue.

— Hannah Weil

Zara's embossed fabric t-shirt [25] ($60) will be both the casual counter to my pencil skirt at the office and the dressed-up sweatshirt to top my boyfriend jeans on weekends. It's a piece that caters to my somewhat bipolar fashion personality — and that's always a plus.

— Hannah Weil

This minimal Assembly New York + Neji Commu leather wrap wristwatch [26] ($328) serves double-duty as a timepiece and pretty wraparound leather bracelet.

— Meg Cuna

Ever since I saw Kate Bosworth [27] sporting the diamond version of this adorable Tous bear, I've loved the modernist take on the childhood favorite. Rendered in sleek black, this Bubble Bear pendant [28] ($179) is the dash of whimsy my Spring looks need.

— Melissa Liebling-Goldberg

I love turning a typically "daytime" piece into something unexpected and wearable for going out at night. These Tucker Floral-Print Georgette Pants [29] ($299) would look just as pretty with a white blouse and blazer for the office as it would with a fitted tank and leather jacket for the bar.

— Britt Stephens

Now that I've done some Spring-cleaning in my closet (and jewelry case), I think it's the perfect time to update my arsenal with a simple yet statement-making piece. Enter Dea Dia Raw Crystal Pyrite Bangle [30] ($29), which has a bohemian-chic, vintage-inspired feel that I love. While I'll likely be adding it to my current arm party, it would look just as gorgeous on its own.

— Britt Stephens

My year-round uniform is a denim-on-denim ensemble, and I have more chambray tops than I like to admit, but I'm justifying this Assembly New York [31] ($268) purchase because of the details: lightly twisted with a boxy silhouette. I can't say I own anything remotely similar to it.

— Meg Cuna

I'm a sucker for a collared dress, and this one by Sea [32] ($449) incorporates so many of my favorite Spring trends at once. Emerald! Colorblock! Fit-and-flare! Did I mention it's perfect for work, too?

— Melissa Liebling-Goldberg

My hunt for the perfect Summer jumpsuit has come to an end thanks to this Boy by Band of Outsiders [33] ($850) rendition. Between the chic wrap front detail to the crisp white hue, I can already picture myself wearing this 24/7.

— Chi Diem Chau

I bought my first pair of Gola [34] sneakers on a trip to Europe in 2000, and I've been a fan of the brand ever since. I love this super-cheerful, made-for-the-weekend floral pair [35] ($75) for Madewell [36] — cute and comfortable need not be an oxymoron!

— Melissa Liebling-Goldberg

I have Jessica Alba to thank [37] for introducing me to this IIIBeCa by Joy Gryson Duane Street crossbody bag [38] ($158). I'm all about being hands-free and the neutral hue will go with all my Spring ensembles. Plus, that price tag is too good to deny.

— Melody Nazarian

As far as I'm concerned, you can never have too many pairs of flat sandals. What I love most about Loeffler Randall's Skye Gladiators [39] ($250) is the bold mix of a classic lace-up silhouette with a feisty, on-trend leopard print. They'd look especially cool when paired with another pattern, like a striped shift dress or floral blouse.

— Britt Stephens

These Castañer stripe espadrilles [40] ($130) will easily become my Spring go-to shoes, perfect for pairing with printed dresses, boyfriend jeans, and tailored shorts.

— Chi Diem Chau

I'm one of those guys who will wear a tie to the office just because he feels like it. Alexander Olch is arguably my favorite company putting out ties right now, and this plaid cotton tie [41] ($150) will look good with everything from a chambray shirt on the weekends to a suit at the office.

— Robert Khederian

When I first spotted this floral Loeffler Randall bag [42] ($395) in all its printed glory, I knew it had to be mine. Aside from its bold beauty and polished gold push lock, it's the perfect size to hold all of my Spring essentials. I'll pair it with denim cutoffs and a cozy cardigan — utilizing the adjustable shoulder strap for hands-free fun — during the day, then pump up my LBD with the clutch version at night.

— Mandi Villa

It makes sense why Goldsign would name this style Mr. Right Jeans [43] ($244). Just look to the boyfriend-inspired silhouette, complete with subtle distressing, for a go-to pair of denim that actually makes even the most basic of outfits look relaxed, slouchy (but never sloppy), and effortless . . . it's just right.

— Marisa Tom

Spring is playing host to some seriously awesome designer collaborations, and this particular partnership serves up great functionality, too. The Illesteva + Zac Posen cat-eye acetate sunglasses [44] ($295) capture a retro vibe without veering into Grease Pink Ladies territory, and they've got enough quirk to hold their own with any (and all) of the outfits I've got planned for the music festival circuit.

— Marisa Tom

With Spring (finally) here, it's time to break out those lightweight jackets. Enter this striped Band of Outsiders baseball jacket [45] ($425). Its blue and white color palette will go with anything, while the horizontal stripes add an unexpected update to a wardrobe staple.

— Robert Khederian

With an updated gladiator aesthetic and geometric colorblocking, these trendy Blonde Ambition sandals [46] ($165) are like nothing you've ever seen. I can think of a million ways to work these colorful gladiators, the first pairing being an orange swing dress and crochet crossbody bag for a sunny picnic at the park.

— Mandi Villa

I have another round of weddings to attend this month, and I think AllSaints' Jodelle dress [47] ($248) plays to my lighter mood. Not to mention, the mellow yellow hue isn't too casual — just add a statement necklace and kitten heels, and I'm good to go.

— Marisa Tom

It's finally time for sandals! This pair of Carri sandals [48] ($350) from Elizabeth and James [49] are sturdy enough to walk around the city in, but fashionable enough for any occasion. And I love the play between the soft navy and the textured metallic — they're the new neutrals.

— Melissa Liebling-Goldberg

I've been on the hunt for a white bag to add a crisp edge to my Spring style, and I think I found the perfect one with this Barneys New York East/West tote [50] ($725). The leather is so buttery and its simple design will go with just about everything I own.

— Melody Nazarian

I can't decide what's more impressive about this Theodora & Callum citron Yucatan scarf [51] ($175): it's fresh color combo or the fact that you can tie it into harem pants in under a minute! I can't wait to take it with me on my beach escapes.

— Melody Nazarian

As if I didn't already love the Cambridge Satchel, the British company now offers the same classic shape in a metallic color scheme. The lilac Cambridge Satchel [52] ($175) is perfect for spring, and the royal blue's bright pop of color is on par with this season's color trends. Decisions, decisions . . .

— Jen Michalski

These Barneys New York Co-Op leopard slip-on sandals [53] ($285) speak to my minimalist side, but the leopard print lends just enough flair. I envision throwing them on with everything from dresses to jeans.

— Melody Nazarian

I am constantly on the search for the perfect leather tech accessory, and when I saw this Cole Haan iPad cover [54] ($98), I was immediately impressed. It's sleek enough so it won't add any bulk to your tablet while being made of buttery leather. Even better, it has a built-in smart cover, and it all rings in for under $100. You can't beat that.

— Robert Khederian

I've been dreaming about these 3.1 Phillip Lim [55]
patchwork pants
($425) since first seeing them on the runway. There's nothing more comfortable than an airy pair of chambray pants to pair with a basic tee and barely-there sandals. For a chilly Spring night, I would channel my inner Kurt Cobain and throw on a holey sweater with a beanie for maximum '90s appeal.

— Meg Cuna

These Swims galoshes [56] ($84) are genius. Slip them over your nice shoes when it's wet outside, and you'll never have to worry about ruining your shoes ever again.

— Robert Khederian
