Designer Spotlight: Oh de Cologne

Most of you were on Team Cologne from Stylista.

Most of you were on Team Cologne from Stylista. Though she got the boot, she's not sitting at home crying. Nay. The California girl has a clothing and jewelry collection called Oh de Cologne. Eau de perfume, Oh de Cologne — cute. Much like her outfits on the show, the line consists of vibrant floral print frocks, tempered by brown belts and tall boots. Her jewelry is limited to cologne bottle vials. She's certainly taking advantage of her unique name. The prices are steep — $189 to $229 for dresses, $86 for the necklace — but the selection and styling is fun. Cologne has found her signature style and is sticking to it.

The Old "Price Upon Request" Quandary Gets Put to Rest

>> Eric Wilson's article in The New York Times today about those mysterious items in fashion magazines listed as "price upon request" — turns out a lot of them never went into production and aren't available for purchase — is especially ironic, considering a conversation Elle editors Joe Zee and Anne Slowey had on last night's episode of Stylista.

In the clip below, the show's contestants are presenting the trend page they created for the magazine, full of product, but Anne notices that they forgot to add in the shopping credits: "What's that all about?"  One of the contestants tries to explain that she "didn't think it would be okay to make up prices" but Anne retorts that on a shopping page, the credits are "imperative . . . it's the only reason why we exist as a fashion magazine."  Joe backs her up — "Credits are key" — and then Anne ends the conversation with a sarcastic, "I want everything on this page, but I don't know where to buy it."

Funny she should say that . . . »

Are You on Team Katie or Team Cologne?

I bet when they signed up to be on Stylista, the contestants did not expect to plan a 10-year-old's birthday party.

I bet when they signed up to be on Stylista, the contestants did not expect to plan a 10-year-old's birthday party. And not just any 10-year-old: Anne Slowey's diva niece, Erin. Do kids like that really exist? Like any other challenge, some hopefuls went above and beyond, while others fell behind. Johanna's party idea — fashion show and an illusionist — claimed Erin's interest, so she won the challenge. But in the end, Anne, Joe Zee, and guest judge Cynthia Rowley had to let one person go. While many thought (and hoped) it would be Katie, it actually ended up being Cologne. What did you think about the decision? Are you on Team Katie or Team Cologne?

Stylista Style: Johanna

While Megan wears red as she prepares for the children's party, Johanna opts for a more subtle black look. She's head to toe in the color, wearing a sleeveless lace top paired with a pleated skirt and stud earrings. For fun, add a pair of black eyeglasses like the version from Urban Outfitters.

TV Tonight: Stylista

OK, I have to know: Is anyone enjoying the CW's Stylista as much as I am?

OK, I have to know: Is anyone enjoying the CW's Stylista as much as I am? Yes, it's insubstantial fluff, but sometimes that's exactly what I need — and the show's filling the cattiness void left behind by this past season of Project Runway quite nicely.

The show can be a little overdramatic (last week's hospital trip, anyone?), but I'm actually pleasantly surprised by how much the tasks handed down to the assistants so far seem like something one might be asked to do at a real magazine. That will get tested in tonight's episode, though, as the remaining aspiring editors are asked to throw a birthday party for Anne Slowey's niece. That seems a wee bit high-maintenance even for a woman who only eats almonds once they've been soaked overnight — but maybe there will be one heck of an editorial challenge to make up for it.

I guarantee, I'll be watching this show at least till Megan gets kicked off, because I can't wait to see how she reacts when someone tells her she's not the queen of everything. (As for which contestants I'm rooting for? Johanna and Ashlie, so far.) Is anyone else hooked, or do you all think I'm nuts? Stylista, Elle's Sinking Ship

>> After the second episode of Elle's Stylista aired last night, I think it's safe to say that it's not going to get any better.  Fashion news editor Anne Slowey still can't walk on a pair of heels — never good when you're acting as omnipotent fashion editor on national TV — and her show has been relegated to the bargain basement with the label of "tremendously silly and kinda boring fashion magazine editor competition show."  Even with some of The Devil Wears Prada furniture on-set, the show remains a sad shell of the real thing; Anne Slowey is no Meryl Streep. There are numbers to prove how unimpressed watchers are — the second episode lost 30 percent of its viewership from last week, and while it's lead-in show, America's Next Top Model, attracted 4.4 million in audience, Stylista "fumbled all but 2.4 million of the viewers, which is barely better than The CW was doing in the time period with repeats of the next generation of 90210."

The jury is still out on whether Stylista will drive up newsstand sales and ad pages, which is it's main purpose, but it's looking like Anne Slowey is no Nina Garcia, either.
