Thakoon Fall 2014 Runway Show | New York Fashion Week

Thakoon Panichgul is well-known for his floral prints, but the one anchoring his Fall 2014
collection — a color-saturated fuchsia rose with blurred lines and pixelated edges — was clearly of the designer's own creation and not something plucked from the garden. Seen in needlepoint on a black ribbed hoodie and on an embroidered puffer jacket, it was sweet yet strong. Similarly, a series of angora striped capelets, turtleneck shrugs, and tweed funnel-neck scarves offered up outerwear alternatives but also a lesson in modern-day layering. And the shoes, heeled booties with shocks of pink or green wool at the heel, helped bring it all together, too.

This unconventional approach to the ethereal has made the designer a go-to for those looking for something a little bit different . . . something feminine but unfussy. (A reason why actress Taylor Schilling, who has frequently worn Thakoon on recent red carpets, sat front row.) And, as the models walked to a live recording of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," that's just what we all got.
