What's Golden: Emmy Rossum's Latest Is a Lesson in High Shine

Emmy Rossum shined bright at the 21st annual "A Night at Sardi's" gala benefiting the Alzheimer's Association, and it had everything to do with her gilded look.

Emmy Rossum shined bright at the 21st annual "A Night at Sardi's" gala benefiting the Alzheimer's Association, and it had everything to do with her gilded look. The actress — who has admitted to not working with a stylist — didn't show any signs of personal-style shortcomings, taking a strong head-to-toe stance on shades of gold. For those of us that find Spring's metallic trend a little daunting, Rossum's ensemble provides a little (or a lot) of inspiration to cull from, and here's how.

Instead of going the sexier high-shine route, the brunette beauty chose a gold sequin-covered Tory Burch tea-length dress from the designer's Spring '13 collection. The longer hemline provided an immediate ladylike effect, and rather than shying away from the eye-catching hue, she added equally cool gold Jimmy Choo sandals, gold bangles, and gold drop earrings into the mix. While it's a bold styling approach, notice that aside from the statement dress, she went with gold add-ons that complemented the central outfit piece rather than with accessories that overwhelmed. Rossum's commitment to gold-hued glamour is admirable and certainly something to emulate, but we know not everyone is ready to dive in head first. If you want to approach with caution, try styling a crisp white top with a muted gold pencil skirt, gold stud earrings, and a gold watch. For everything else, see our editors' shopping picks below.

Tory Burch showed an artful Fall 2013 collection Tuesday morning at the Pierre Hotel, citing the Neue Galerie, Gustav Klimt, and Lalique among her inspirations. The offering was rich with visual and literal texture: a dark-blue rose print on cream fabric was turned into a coat and a handbag, while other pieces were adorned with lace, sequins, crystals, and oversize bits of colored metal. But it wasn't just the clothing that got decorated; many of the shoes had dragonflies affixed to them that caught the light as the models came down the runway. Our full review will be posted shortly. In the meantime, please enjoy a first look at the collection.
